Which way to the North Pole? Ask these students
Which way is north?
If you want to get to the North Pole, ask the students at North Woods Elementary School how
to get there. You may want to leave yourself some extra time though, according to these guys,
times of arrival may vary. Back row, from left: J.T. McNaught, Ty Somers, Mason Beirnes, Ryker

According to the Grade One
students at North Woods Elementary
School near Ethel, there are some
direct ways, some indirect ways,
some mysteriously specific
timelines and some downright
magical transportation options for
travelling to the North Pole.
When asked how they would get to
Santa's abode and how long it would
take, the group of students had ideas
from the run-of-the-mill jet plane
taking a few minutes to a century -
long quest to visit the home of the
elusive Claus.
"I would take a jet plane because if
you didn't have a jet or a fast plane
you would be slower. I've been to
the North Pole before and it will take
55 days to get there"
Harlen
"I would drive with my mom and
[brother] Jeffrey and we would take
an airplane because it's fast. It would
take two minutes to get to the North
Pole."
Emily
"It would take 10 days to get to the
North Pole and if I had to go there, I
would ride in a North Pole plane. It's
the kind of plane that can land in the
water. I would probably fly it
because I've been to the North Pole
before."
Ethan
"I would use a snowmobile to go
visit Santa Claus and I think it would
take 50 hours to get there. I would
bring a gas bottle in case I ran out of
gas. My uncle used to let me ride on
his snowmobile so I know how they
work"
Ryker
"I could get to the North Pole in 13
minutes. I would go there with a
plane. I would drive to the airport
with my mom and dad and get on the
plane and fly there with someone
who knows how to fly a plane"
Jesa
"I would fly to the North Pole to
visit Santa Claus in a helicopter. I
think it would take about four
minutes. I would probably have to
get the helicopter from a person who
has a helicopter because I don't
know anyone who has a helicopter
and I don't have one."
Bronwyn
"It would take 10 days to get to the
North Pole because it's really high.
It's like really, really high up there. I
would get there in an airplane. I've
been in a helicopter but a helicopter
can't go as high as the North Pole is,
so I would get a plane. A plane
would go really high to get there and
get to Santa. Then I would ask Santa
for my own plane."
Connor
"I think the North Pole is a really
far away place so it would take a
whole day to get there. I would go in
a plane, but not like the planes at the
airport. I would take a North Pole
plane. It's special because it flies to
the North Pole. It doesn't go
anywhere else."
Bridget
"I think it would be a 10 -hour
plane trip to the North Pole. I want to
go on a plane because it's fun and
you can have snacks and watch
Christmas movies."
Claire
"If you take a balloon to the North
Pole it would take a very long time
and you might miss it. It would take
a half hour to get to the North Pole if
you take an air plane. I would take
an airplane so I could get there
quickly."
J.T.
"To get to the North Pole I would
think you would take a car to an
airport, then hop in a plane and then
hop in a boat because the North Pole
is far away. We might need an alien
ship to get there after that because
it's on a different piece of the earth.

"I've been on a plane. You get to
watch movies and eat food, so you
should take that to the North Pole. It
would take 60 days to get there on a
plane, but you could watch movies
and eat food so that would be okay."
Eliah
"The North Pole is a long way
away so I think it would take 16
hours to get there from the airport. I
would go to the airport and get on an
airplane. My mom and my Dad
would take me to the airport and get
me on the plane to get to Santa Claus
at the North Pole."
"I think it would take 100 years
because the North Pole is very, very
far away. I would take a plane, but
planes can't get there. Jet planes can
get there, because they are faster
than a small plane and jet planes are
loud and cool."
Willy
"The North Pole is actually up in
the sky so it would take 34 hours
going straight up to get there. I
would take a helicopter because it
flies straight up and it can move
back and forward, not like a plane."
Lucas
"I would take a helicopter or an
airplane because the North Pole is
very far away and very cold and you
