Christmas vacation Santa Claus doesn't always work, does he? He must take a vacation every now and then. Well the Grade 1 students at Hullett Central Public School have some strong opinions on that. (Denny Scott photo) Hullett Central Public School's Grade 1 students have some unique ideas about Santa Claus' Christmas vacations. When asked, the students provided answers ranging from the expected, to the local, to the idea that the jolly old man simply works the whole way through the year. "Santa goes to the Clinton beach and swims in the lake. He wears a bathing suit that's red and white, but "Santa makes cookies on his it's getting pretty old so he should vacation because he doesn't have get a new one" Clay "Santa goes to the beach in Goderich so he can swim and sit on the sand. He swims almost all the time, but no one can see him because he's magic." Marie The Lions Club's Santa Continued from page 18 and Mell as one of the most memorable in recent years. Having everyone together and doing something so fun as sleigh rides outdoors in a Huron County winter will stick with them forever, they said. When everyone is together, both Ric and Mell share the cooking duties for the traditional meal of turkey, stuffing and potatoes. Both are members of the Blyth Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion and Ric is a member of the Blyth Lions Club, so neither are strangers to feeding large groups of people in a short amount of time. In terms of Ric's time with the Lions, which began in 2013, he has been part of a new Christmas tradition that has put smiles on the faces of many of the village's children when he dons the red and white for the club's annual Christmas party. McBurney, with his long white beard, was the perfect candidate when he joined the Lions four years ago and he says he has enjoyed fulfilling the role when the holidays roll around. Things haven't always run smoothly for the big man in the red suit, however. Ric said that just recently, when he visited a local retirement home, he found his belt simply would not stay in place. Fighting this "wardrobe malfunction" all day, pulling the belt up from his knees for hours, he visited with Irene Kellins at Stitches With A Twist, who fixed him right up. He wears swimming shorts with Spider -Man on it because he likes Spider -Man." Braxton "I think Santa probably goes camping at The Pinery. He goes swimming there and camps and has fires and roasts marshmallows for almost the whole year except for Christmas because the elves make the toys. You can't see him when he is there because he turns into red dust." Markus "Santa goes to Santa's village, but I don't know where that is. He sits in a house in a chair and sleeps the whole time. That's all Santa wants to do is sleep because he gets tired giving people all the toys and presents" Lincoln "Santa stays at home to wait for Christmas and give presents. He feeds his reindeer and watches Christmas TV if he doesn't have any toys to build." Sully "Santa goes hunting when he is on vacation. I heard that he went hunting because he told me he hunts white -tail deer and reindeer. He hunts for meat. How else would he get meat at the North Pole?" Macy "Santa goes to the beach in Goderich. I don't know why he goes to the beach because he just eats cookies and milk. He wears a swimsuit with Christmas and Santa hats on it." Rileigh "Santa doesn't get to take a vacation. He makes toys all year long. He sometimes takes a nap so he can get a rest to visit people's houses" Abby Continued on page 24 l Closed at 6:00 December 24th 11[ Closed December 25th Open 8-6 Boxing Day Canadian Tire Goderich Canada's Christmas Store R.R.#2 Highway 8, Goderich • Phone: 519-524-2121 Your local Canadian Tire in Huron County CEQUEST RADAR AUTO PARTS "You will find it at CARQUEST" For all your automotive and sleigh needs, see the friendly folks at Radar for your Christmas gift ideas. • Hand Tools • Power Tools and more!
