McBurney home can be quiet around the holidays
The McBurneys often stay home
over the holidays, but do their best to
co-ordinate a day that would bring
as many of their children and
grandchildren to Blyth as possible.
Between them, Ric and Mell have
seven children and 13 grandchildren
and families are spread all over, in
Goderich, Barrie, Stratford, London,
Kitchener and St. Thomas.
When everyone is together, which
has been known to happen, there are
between 30 and 35 people at the
McBurney home, which they have
taken measures over time to
accommodate.
The pair have put an addition onto
the house and finished the basement
to ensure that everyone can fit when
they're all in one place at one time.
The most recent Christmas Ric
and Mell can remember having most
of the family home was just a few
years ago and they travelled just east
of Londesborough for holiday sleigh
rides at the horse farm.
That Christmas sticks out for Ric

Time for the holidays
Ric and Mell McBurney, along with the newest addition to their family, generally expect things
to be pretty quiet around the holidays, unless Ric is at the Blyth Lions Club's Christmas party,
below with fellow Lion Lisa Bromley and her family, where he has the honour of donning the
red and white. (Shawn Loughlin photo, photo submitted)

The Citizen
Christmas around the McBurney
home is pretty quiet these days with
children grown and moved out and
grandchildren in the mix. It often
makes for a quiet time in Blyth.
Ric, this year's Citizen of the Year
Award winner for the Blyth
community, and his wife Mell, have
a number of children between them,
all peppered throughout
southwestern Ontario, all with their
own holiday schedules and
traditions in place.
