Brussels Livestock report
Fed steers, heifers sell at steady prices
Total receipts for Brussels
Livestock for the week ending Dec.
1 were 2,705 cattle and 475 lambs
and goats. On Tuesday, fed steers
and heifers sold on a selective
demand at steady prices. Choice
steers and heifers sold $139 to $140
with a high of $158. Second cut sold
$136 to $139. Cows sold steady. On
Thursday veal calves sold on a very
active trade at steady to higher
prices. Lambs sold steady to higher
while goats and sheep sold steady.
On Friday all classes of cattle sold
on a strong active trade at fully
steady prices with heavy heifers
selling $3 to $5 higher.
Melvin Bauman of St. Clements,
consigned 42 steers that averaged
1,607 lbs. and sold for an average
price of $136.17. One charolais steer

These four exceptional senior
members from across Canada
embody the leadership excellence
and academic achievement that

L.E.A.D., 4-H Canada's most
prestigious and highly -sought after
scholarship, is made possible
through a generous partnership with
CN, a long-time supporter of 4-H
Canada and strong champion for
advancing leadership in
communities across Canada. This
scholarship recognizes four such
leaders each year, outstanding 4-
H'ers who embody the 4-H youth
movement, and who demonstrate
personal development, community
impact and leadership excellence in
each of 4-H Canada's four
Leadership Development Pillars.
The 2017 4-H Canada L.E.A.D.
recipients are: Sara Kate Smith (BC)
L.E.A.D recipient for the
Community Engagement and
Communications Pillar; Evan Krebs
(Hensall, ON) L.E.A.D recipient for
the Science and Technology Pillar;
Sadie -Jane Hickson (ON) L.E.A.D.
recipient for the Environment and
Healthy Living Pillar and Thian
Carmen (NS) for the Sustainable
Agriculture and Food Security
Pillar.
"As a positive youth development
organization we are more than
thrilled to award these four
exceptional youth leaders who are
devoted to making a positive
difference in the world," said
Shannon Benner, CEO of 4-H
Canada. "We are fortunate to partner
with a company like CN that truly
understands and shares the values
represented by the L.E.A.D.
scholars."
Each L.E.A.D. recipient benefits
from a $20,000 scholarship towards
their four-year post -secondary
studies. They are also matched with
a high -impact mentor who plays a
leadership role in their industry and
community. This mentorship
relationship is an important
component of the award program
and helps L.E.A.D. recipients as
they move forward in their careers.

of Harriston, consigned four steers
that averaged 1,538 lbs. and sold for
an average price of $138.60. One
maine steer weighed 1,480 lbs. and
sold for $140.50.
John Richardson of Harriston,
consigned eight head that averaged
1,384 lbs. and sold for an average
price of $145.04. One black heifer
weighed 1,565 lbs. and sold for
$158. Scott Johnston Farms of
Bluevale, consigned 42 heifers that
averaged 1,391 lbs. and sold for an
average price of $135.64. Two
limousin heifers averaged 1,360 lbs.
and sold for an average price of
$141.50.
There were 302 cows on offer.
Export types sold $65 to $77; beef,
$75 to $91 to a high of $98; D1 and
D2, $60 to $66; D3, $55 to $60; D4,
$45 to $55. Robin Leifso of
Elmwood, consigned one red cow
that weighed 1,495 lbs., sold for $91.
There were 23 bulls selling $75 to
$103. Wayne Beirnes of Listowel,
consigned one black bull that
weighed 1,210 lbs. and sold for
$103.
There were 150 head of veal on
offer. Good holsteins sold $150 to
$165 with sales to $166; SI heavy
holsteins, $140 to $150; heavy
holsteins, $110 to $140. Matt
Huether of Londesborough,
consigned eight holstein steers that
averaged 703 lbs. and sold for an
average price of $160.80. One
holstein -cross steer weighed 725 lbs.
and sold for $177. Ken Heimpel of
Gorrie, consigned nine holstein
steers that averaged 733 lbs. and sold
for an average price of $157.72. One
holstein steer weighed 710 lbs. and
sold for $166.
Lambs, 50 - 64 lbs. sold $330 to
$372; 65 - 79 lbs., $285 to $310; 80
- 94 lbs., $223 to $237; 95 - 109 lbs.,
$212 to $218; over 110 lbs., $205 to
$200.
Sheep sold $100 to $200 / lb.
Goats: kids - meat sold $205 to
$370; dairy, $171 to $190; nannies,
$75 to $150; billies, $150 to $300 /
lb.
Top quality stocker steers, 400 -
499 lbs. sold $241 to $288; 500 - 599
lbs., $231 to $261; 600 - 699 lbs.,
$223 to $236; 700 - 799 lbs., $201 to
$225; 800 - 899 lbs., $205 to $220;

charolais steers averaged 4450 lbs.
and sold for an average price of

Linwood consigned 20 charolais
heifers that averaged 1,030 lbs. and
sold for an average price of $169.94.
Sixteen heifers averaged 1,023 lbs.
and sold for an average price of
$172.25.
