From the Minister's Study
Feeling lost isn't the end of the world: Royall
By Rev. Mark Royall
Huron Chapel Evangelical
Missionary Church, Auburn
Well, it happened. I knew it would
one day. On Saturday, Nov. 18 at
approximately at 6:30 a.m. in South
Yarmouth, Massachusetts (Cape
Cod) it became official...I am old.
I stopped in at the donut shop to
get a coffee on the way to watch the
sun rise up over the ocean. A young
teenage girl behind the counter took
my order and then she spoke these
words for which will always be
etched in my memory. She looked at
Auxiliary
donates
$11,000
The Auxiliary to the Wingham &
District Hospital has been
supporting the hospital for 110
years. Most recently it has donated
$11,000 for the purchase of four
pressure relief mattress on the in-
patient floor.
The new mattresses are well -loved
by medical staff and patients alike
for their improved comfort and
benefits for healing and long-term
care. The Auxiliary intends to fund
the purchase of an additional two
mattresses.
The Auxiliary to the Wingham
& District Hospital raises funds
by hosting events throughout the
year. Their events include the
spring and fall fashion shows,
rummage sales and the popular
poinsettia tea.
The 2017 Poinsettia Tea and Bake
Sale was held Dec. 6 in the new
Terrace Room (former doctors'
clinic) at the Wingham & District
Hospital and all proceeds will
benefit the purchase of equipment
for the hospital.
Since its inception 110 years ago,
the Auxiliary has contributed
$108,000 to the hospital. For more
information about Auxiliary
activities or to join, contact Trudy

me and said, "So, I will give you the
senior discount with that?" Timed
stopped.
I had never been asked that
question before. This couldn't be
happening...to me. Believing, really
hoping, she had made a great
mistake I asked her, "How old do
you have to be to get a senior
discount?" She said, "55 years old"
Disillusioned I responded, "I am 55
years old." She gave me the senior
discount. It wasn't worth the 17
cents I saved on my coffee that day.
About 50 years earlier at a grocery
store about an hour away from this
donut shop was the first time I
remember feeling young and
admittedly dependent. I was grocery
shopping with my mom. Feeling
brave, I wandered down an aisle to
check out some Pop Tarts or
something. I was exploring the
boundaries of my independence and
left my mother's side. Arriving at
the Pop Tarts, I turned around and to
my horror, my mom was gone. I
panicked. I was lost.
The lostness I felt in that grocery
store aisle was not a geography
problem. I knew the grocery store. It
was familiar to me. I also knew the
neighbourhood the store was in. The
store was less than a mile from my
house and it would have been easy
for me to direct someone back to my
home.
The lostness and the panic 1 felt
that day was not a geography
problem... it was a relationship
problem. I knew where I was... but
I didn't know where my mom was.
What mattered to me in that grocery
store more than anything else was
my relationship with my mother, and
in the moment...I didn't have that.
She was gone. I was alone. I was
lost.
There are probably some of you
reading this now who feel lost. Your
lostness isn't a geography problem.
You know where you are...

geographically speaking. However,
you feel lost because you do not
know where you are in relation with
your Heavenly Father. Just like the
panic I felt when I lost my mom in
the grocery store, you have these
moments of panic because you do
not know where you are in
relationship to God.
The truth is, my mom did not
abandon me it that grocery store. I
was the one who had wandered
away. The Bible tells us how we
have done this as well with our
Heavenly Father when it says,
"All of us, like sheep, have strayed
away. We have left God's paths to
follow our own. (Isaiah 53:6)
However, the good news is this, He
doesn't want you to be lost to Him.
We also read in His Word to us,
"Seek the Lord while you can find
Him. Call on Him now while He is
near" (Isaiah 55:6).
