Knox congregation decides to stay in Belgrave PEOPLE AROUND BELGRAVE By Linda Campbell Call 357-2188 Ron and Trudy Taylor greeted worshippers and handed out the bulletin at Knox United Church on Sunday, Dec. 3. Brian Hymers welcomed the congregation and lit the Christ candle. The welcoming hymn was, "0 Come, 0 Come Emmanuel". Ron and Trudy did the reading on the Advent Candle, the Candle of Peace, and lit the candle. Next Sunday is the Candle of Love and the congregation is invited to bring ornaments, notes and letters to adorn the Christmas tree. These can be put on prior or during the service to help those struggling and to help them be a part of a family. The Advent hymn was "Hope is a Star". All the hymns were accompanied by Ann Clark and Lila Procter. Birthday greetings were extended to Brenda Hymers whose birthday is Dec. 5. There is a Christmas Eve Service in Belgrave at 7 p.m. and there is no Sunday morning worship service. Anyone wishing to place a poinsettia in the church in memory of a loved one may do so the plants can be taken home Christmas Eve if you wish. After the singing of the children's hymn, "Go Tell It On the Mountain" the children went to the front for story time with Brian. Brian talked about the word "Peace" and what it meant (calm, repose, freedom from disturbance or war). It is when everybody gets along and loves everybody. We think of it as countries having peace. World peace is when the countries have peace. Allen Walker, Lila Procter and the minister Brian Hymers served the bread and wine and the congregation went to the front to partake, followed by the Brussels Blizzard Bonanza The Threshers triumphed over the Witches of Broom 2-1 to take the Ladies 'A' championship in the Brussels Blizzard Bonanza broomball tournament on the weekend. The Threshers posted wins over the Twisted Sisters and the Arctic Blaze to earn a spot in the championship. Our condolences to Fannie Somers and family on the passing of George Somers. He will be missed by Rick, Randy, Ross and Janice and their families. George was a very nice man, a friendly giant, you might say. He always had a twinkle in his eye and a mischievous smile, and a joke for all. George was a man who could do most anything, but his passion was for welding. He worked for farmers in his younger days, and then for a time with Elma Steel, but he enjoyed working in his own shop the best. George loved his social time, playing cards and talking to all. Our sympathies to all. Those celebrating birthdays this week include Daniel Fritz, Tim Dionne, Cameron Blair, Lily Fraser, Jim Fritz, Scott Godkin, Justin Hoegy, Curtis Wharton, Paul McCallum, Mary Bernard, Greg Bowers, Ron Godkin, Pat Langlois, See histories and historic photographs on the Huron History section of our website www.northhuron.on.ca Rick McDonald, Brea McDonald, Jeff Robinson, Devin Bachert, Mark Nolan, Mike Nolan and Liz Roth. Happy birthday to all! communion hymn, "Eat This Bread and Never Hunger". The congregation listened to the word of God as Doreen Marks read from Isaiah 40: 1-11 and Peter 3: 1- 8. We celebrate the birth of our Saviour at Christmas. God is always with us. Jesus is a gift of all mankind Jesus lives within each of us. "Herald, Sound the Note of Gladness" was the hymn of response. Nancy Jardin reported on the Minute for Missions entitled Micro Credit Funds and relating to Women in Kenya starting up their own business with a loan of $50 U.S. This would be something like baking, sewing, selling produce and such. Ken Procter and Doug Walker took up the offering which was dedicated. After the offertory response„ "In Gratitude and Humble Trust" was sung, the Lord's Prayer was repeated in unison. The closing hymn, "Infant Holy, Infant Lowly", the benediction, "May the Blessing of God be Upon You", and the choral amen concluded the morning worship service. On Wednesday evening, Nov.22, the Knox United Church, Belgrave held a town hall meeting for their congregation. The meeting was called to find out the wishes of their congregation going forward. A lot of discussion was held and the decision was made to stay in Belgrave with good communication from Dungannon and Trinity so that we can support them in their activities and they can support Belgrave by taking part in some of our activities. The Belgrave congregation has enjoyed the friendships that have been made with all congregations and hope this will continue. The community extends sincere sympathy to Erin Schiestel, Amy van Meeteren, and Ryan Robinson and families in the loss of their grandmother, Doris Remington.
