Huron East councillors honoured for years of service
A quarter-century

Two day -one Huron East
councillors were honoured last week
for their decades -long commitment
to public service.
Larry McGrath and Alvin
McLellan were both honoured by
the Ministry of Municipal Affairs for
26 years of service each, dating back
to the days before municipal
amalgamation.
McGrath has been a councillor
with Huron East from Jan. 1, 2001
and he is still serving in the position,
meaning that he has been with the
municipality for 17 years. Before
that, he was the Tuckersmith deputy -
reeve for three years and a councillor
for six years before that.
"First elected to Tuckersmith
Township Council in 1988,
Councillor Larry McGrath served
six years as councillor and three
years as deputy -reeve of
Tuckersmith Council. With the
newly amalgamated Municipality of
Huron East, Councillor McGrath has
amalgamation. Both men were thanked for their 27 years of
service. They were presented with certificates by Deputy -Minister

served as a councillor from the
Tuckersmith Ward since 2001,"
McGrath's nomination read. "As a
life-long resident of the community,
Councillor McGrath has been
involved in a number of committees
over the years, including the
Seaforth and District Community
Centre Board. He is currently a
member of the Huron East

We've had a week of great
weather! Lots of field work has been
done. Christmas decorations are up,
a few other outside jobs are done
and we are now ready for the onset
of winter and snow!
Chris and Shelly Smith have been
the hosts for a Grade 8 student from
Spain. Lucas has been here since
mid-September and goes to school
with Bennett Smith at St. James
Catholic School in Seaforth. Lucas
travelled to Ottawa for the weekend
to spend time with the Smith sisters,
Lexi and Delayna. Lexi gave up a
weekend at Western to see life at
Carlton with Delayna. Lucas had a
great time taking in the sights of
Ottawa. He got to experience
residence life. Bennett travelled in a
different direction that weekend to a

Councillor Alvin McLellan was
also honoured for 26 years of
service. Like McGrath, he has
served as a Huron East councillor
since January, 2001.
Before amalgamation, McLellan
was deputy -reeve with the Township
of Grey for three years and a
councillor for six years before that.
"First elected to council in 1991,
Councillor Alvin McLellan has
served nine years as councillor and
deputy -reeve of Grey Township and
has, since 2001, served as a Grey
Ward councillor to the amalgamated
Municipality of Huron East,"
McLellan's nomination read. "In
addition to serving as a municipal
councillor, Councillor McLellan has
served 10 years as a director on the
Maitland Valley Conservation
Authority and served 19 years on the
Brussels, Morris and Grey Board of
Recreation Management, including
13 years as chairman"
The nomination added that
McLellan has served on many Grey
Township committees and he takes
great pride in being involved in his
community.
