Society win parade awards With the weather co-operating and wonderful participation the "Celebrate Canada's 150th" Christmas parade in Brussels was a great success. The children enjoyed the free skating, face painting by Snippity The Clown and her friend and the colouring contest while eagerly awaiting Santa's arrival. Hot dogs and pop were also available for the hungry. Santa and Mrs. Claus were greeted with a joyful cheer as the children lined up under the direction of Santa's helpers, Avery and Kaelyn Burnett. The evening ended with everyone having received their bag of candy and a visit with Santa. The winners of the day were: most original float, the Knight family; best service club, the Brussels Agricultural Society; best commercial, TCC; best overall float, D & D Glass. Winners of the colouring contest assisted by Erin McMahon, ambassador of the fair winners were: ages 1-4, Leah Haag and Leyland; 5- 8, Sydney Ives and Bentley Jenkin and 9-12, Marley Gaspirc and Waiden Nicholls. Double duty Santa Claus, alongside his supportive wife, pulled double duty on Saturday night. First, the couple were the highlight of the annual Brussels Santa Claus parade, then, at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre, they heard the Christmas wish lists of children like three- year-old Violet Bougard, below, second from left, and Violet's one -year-old brother Levi. Councillor John Smuck said council should move forward with the rezoning, saying that Canadian Crane Company has "been bending over backwards" to make things as acceptable as possible for neighbours. Council approved the rezoning application which will now go to Huron County Council. If the neighbouring landowner's complaints are still outstanding, it will be treated as a contested municipal approval when brought to the county's committee of the whole meeting. He has published more than 130 peer-reviewed works and more than 300 other non -peer reviewed contributions. President of Huron Soil and Crop Doug Walker said, "The AGM event is a wonderful chance to enjoy good food, renew old friendships, meet other people working in agriculture, find out about innovations in preserving soil health, and to learn from world-class speakers" Talks by Montgomery and Van Acker should be fascinating additions to this year's agenda, according to the HSCIA President. "Huron Soil and Crop is very honoured this year to have geologist Dr. David Montgomery, an internationally renowned author about soil, present to us at our 2017 Annual General Meeting," Walker said.
