Roulstons' retirement party held in Blyth
Long time coming
Keith and Jill Roulston, founders of The Citizen, The Rural Voice and Stops Along The Way,
were honoured with a special retirement open house at Memorial Hall on Saturday. Dozens of
visitors came to celebrate with them and share stories about the past, including one of Keith's
Blyth Festival co-founders James Roy and many others from the Blyth and Brussels
communities. (Lisa B. Pot photo)

down development in safe areas.
Another question that was fielded
by the MVCA was the lack of a
"one -window approach" for dealing
with environmental concerns.
MVCA representatives explained
that they would like to be able to
help landowners and municipalities
with all issues that arise.
Unfortunately, funding and a lack of
willing partners within provincial
and federal organizations prevents
the organization from being able to
do that.

Standard, The Citizen, magazines,
inserts and trophies were all there
for our viewing enjoyment and kick-
starting plenty of reminiscing and
memory -sharing.
Remembering (or not) events from
the papers years ago was fun to
review. Faces in the Blyth Memorial
Hall on Saturday and in those papers
brought many a story and thought as
we recognized the effect Keith and
Jill have had on our community. The
room we were meeting in might not
have been if the young Roulston
hadn't used the power of the press to
alert people to the reality of their
memorial.
The birth of The Citizen, the best
paper in our area, says lots about
Keith and Jill working in the
community. Knowing who to work
with to accomplish goals is the
lesson for many of us to see. Names
like Richards, Brown, Armstrong to
start, knew that work with Keith and
Jill would be an education in
patience, clear thinking,
determination and set goals. So
thanks for the party, it was a very
nice way to say thanks for making
our life better. Enjoy all the perks of
retirement.
Santa Claus is coming to town,
Saturday at 5 p.m. so get out your
skates and mitts and see or be a party
of the parade. Then on to the
Brussels, Morris and Grey
Community Centre for more fun and
a little food. For me the parade is the
signal that Christmas really is
coming and I need to dig out the
Christmas treasures and put them
out on display for all to see.
Enjoy life.
