Walton WI donates to Tanner Steffler Foundation
Making a difference
The Walton Hall was home to its annual Christmas turkey dinner on Sunday night, hosted by
the Walton Women's Institute and the Walton Hall Board. The night consisted of a dinner, a
special program of entertainment provided by Rick Mclnroy and Graeme Craig and a slide
presentation by photographer Bonnie Sitter. The Walton Women's Institute also made a
donation that night, handing over $200 to the newly -established Tanner Steffler Foundation.

What a week of weather. Snow,
rain, sun, wind, some of everything.
The rain put off the harvest again
and just when it was drying up a bit
on Friday, combines hit the field in a
frenzy to get more corn off the field,
and then the rain came again. The
snow arrived on Sunday and made
the roads quite slippery and driving a
challenge for some. A vehicle went
in the ditch on the corner of Brussels
Line and Moncrieff Road and took
down the road marker, probably
taking the corner a little fast on the
slippery road. Slow down and drive
safe! Winter is here!
Friday evening was very nice and
dry for the Christmas Home Tour in
Brussels for the Brussels
Horticultural Society. There were six
homes to visit, all of which were
beautiful. They were all very
different, from very old homes with
beautiful woodwork and small
rooms to the brand new homes with
open concept and modern tile. They
also included lovely Christmas
decorations and beautiful trees in
reds, whites, gold, turquoise, with
flowers, birds, jesters, feathers and
more. All very lovely!
Our sympathies are extended to
Linda Bird on the loss of husband,
Ken Bird. He will be missed by his
daughter Krista and grandchildren
Tamara and Trevor. Ken was a great
Payback time
After playing host to numerous meetings over the past five years and then transforming into
the International Plowing Match headquarters, the Walton Hall Board was the recipient of a
$2,500 cheque from the International Plowing Match executive, thanking members for all they
did to help with the match. Jo -Ann McDonald, the board's treasurer, was at the hall on Sunday
to take the cheque off of IPM Senator Neil McGavin's hands. (Shawn Lou

guy and spent his working life at
Royal Homes until his retirement a
few years ago. A sports guy who
loved his baseball, slo-pitch and
broomball, playing for many years
with the 8thLiners, Ken was also
accident prone and suffered many
unusual injuries over the years, like
slamming a car hood on his hand etc.
A likeable fellow, easy to talk to and
visit and a good guy. He will be
missed by many. Our condolences to
all.
The Walton Hall held its annual
Christmas turkey dinner provided by
the Walton Women's Institute and
the Walton Hall Board on a blustery
Sunday. The dinner was cooked by
the Institute, including Margaret and
Rick McInroy, Helen Craig, Brenda
Perrie, Marion Godkin, Ruth
Axtmann and Marjory Humphries,
and the set-up and clean-up by the
hall ladies including Judy Lee, Judy
Emmrich, Jo -Ann McDonald and
Jane Zwep.
Following the dinner, the
entertainment was provided by
Graeme Craig and Rick McInroy.
The pair touched upon many
subjects of the present and past and
had many comical stories to tell.
Bonnie Sitter was an added bonus
for the evening providing a slide
show entitled "Agriculture in
Huron". Bonnie is a photographer
and her pictures have been featured
in previous books and she now has
another book available for purchase,
as well as post cards. It was a very
interesting evening.
The Walton Women's Institute
members Ruth Axtmann and Helen
Craig made a presentation to John
and Heather Steffler, a cheque for
$200 for the Tanner Steffler
Foundation following the
entertainment. Chair of the IPM,
Jacquie Bishop was also present and
made a presentation to Hall Board
member Jo -Ann McDonald. A
cheque for $2,500 was presented for
the use of the hall for the IPM
Headquarters for the summer and for
various meetings over the past four
years. Margaret McInroy also
presented money to Institute
President Ruth Axtmann and Hall
Board representative Jo -Ann from
the night's receipts, with each group
receiving $700. A wonderful
evening to help out the institute and
the hall in their efforts to keep the
institute and hall viable in the
community. Thanks to all!
