Village mourns loss of three community members

WALTON

The first blast of snow and
everyone is thinking about putting
on their snow tires. Not that we
didn't know we would need them,
but most of us put it off until we have
to have them. The couple of places I
know of are booked solid for the
next two weeks at least, and the
phone keeps ringing.
Here we are "enjoying" the first
blast of winter on Thursday night,
snuggled under a blanket, watching
TV hoping for a snow day
tomorrow! No snow day, but
slippery roads, so more cautious
driving. Winter will arrive and we
just had a small taste of what's to
come.
It has been a week of shock and
sadness in our communities with the
loss of three residents. Our
sympathies are extended to Murray
Houston on the sudden passing of
his wife, Maxine. She will be missed
by their children Jillian (Chris) and
Darryl (Jodi) and precious grandsons
Emmitt and Eli. She will also be
missed by her mother Barb Watts
and siblings Stephanie, David, Trina,
Darrin and RuthAnn.
Maxine was a great and active
lady, who always had a big smile for
all. She was one of the first women I
met when coming to Walton. Our
husbands both played for the Walton
Brewers and we spent many nights
and weekends at the ballpark. We
also played ladies slo-pitch together
and had many laughs after the game.
We worked together many times at
the Walton church and she was
always a willing worker. Maxine
worked for a time at Anna's Dress
Shop and had a wonderful sense of
style. A staunch supporter of her
children's endeavours and a devoted
grandmother, she will be dearly
missed. Our condolences to the
Houston and Watts families.
Our sympathies are extended to
the family of the late Wayne Jacklin.
He will be missed by his children
Shawn (Melissa) and Sharie (Mark)
and five grandsons. He will be
missed by siblings Gord, Don and
Marlene and their families. Wayne
was a truck driver and heavy
equipment operator who drove for
many years for Greenwood and
Donegan's Construction. He also
had his own truck for a while. He
was a quiet man that enjoyed his
family. Our condolences to the
Jacklin family.
Our sympathies are extended to
the Somers family on the passing of
Vernon "Pal" Somers. He will be
missed by his brother George
(Fannie) and their children and
families. A "jack of all trades" was
how many will remember Pal. A
kind and gentle man who was kind-
hearted and willing to help his
family, friends and neighbours. Our
condolences to all the Somers
families.
Our sympathies are extended to
Betty McCutcheon on the loss of her
sister Hazel Beuerman. Hazel will
be missed by her children Lois,
Gwen, Warren (formerly of Walton)
and Connie and their families. Hazel
was formerly of the Brodhagen area
until retiring to Seaforth. She will be
missed by a large extended family of
Beuermans and Daers. Our
condolences to all.
Betty McCutcheon experienced a
shock as another sister, Bernice
McPherson, passed only a few days
after sister Hazel. She will be missed
by her children Debbie, Heather,
Jeffrey, Greg and Tracy and their
families. Our condolences to Betty
and the McPherson family.
A very familiar face to many in
the Walton and Brussels area was
Frank Phillips, who passed on Nov.
10. He will be missed by his children
Beverly, Jeffrey, Brian, Nanci and
Gary. Frank was a photographer and
there will not be many folks around
the area that did not have Frank do
their wedding pictures or family
photos sometime from the 1960s to
the 1990s. He will be remembered
for his little red and white parade car
that went everywhere, or just for
Sunday afternoon drives.
A staunch historian for the war
memorabilia at the Seaforth Legion
and a dedicated member of the
Branch in Seaforth, he will be
missed for his pleasant demeanor
and quick wit. Our condolences to
the Phillips family.
A more pleasant event was the
birthday celebration for Marie
Rammeloo. The family and a few
friends gathered to celebrate her
85th birthday last week. The group
enjoyed a delicious meal provided
by her children for the nearly 25
attending. A beautiful birthday cake
was enjoyed by all. Happy birthday
Marie!
We send our get -well wishes to
Brenda Linton as she has had
shoulder surgery this past week. We
hope she heals quickly and is soon
out and about again.
Returning from a trip down south
to Branson, Missouri is Judy
Emmrich. She was away for a week
and had a great time. They enjoyed
performances by the Duttons, a very
talented family from the Ozark area
and the Haygoods, a local family
that provide music and comedy. She
had a good time while away.
Celebrating birthdays this past
week include Jeanne Kirkby,
Johnathon Williamson, Brian Pryce,
Danielle Ducharme, Murray
Henderson, Katie Roth, Tristan
Rijkhoff, Pat Gillis, Michael
Grobbink and Blaine Marks. Happy
birthday to all.

He shoots, he scores!
The Blyth Brussels Novice Rep Crusaders took on the BCH Ice Dogs over the weekend for an
exciting match -up at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre. Above, Rodney Ansley
of the Crusaders, who scored a hat trick in the game, is shown celebrating after sneaking a
goal past the BCH Ice Dogs' goalie. Unfortunately, the Crusaders lost 5-4. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
