Fed steers, heifers sell at higher prices at sale
Total receipts for Brussels
Livestock for the week ending Nov.
3 were 2,451 cattle and 511 lambs
and goats. On Tuesday fed steers
and heifers sold $2 to $3 higher.
Choice steers and heifers sold $136
to $140 to a high of $150. Second
cut sold $132 to $136. Cows sold on
an easier market. On Thursday veal
and beef calves sold on a strong
active trade at prices $3 to $5 higher.
Lambs and goats sold higher and
sheep sold steady. On Friday calves
and yearlings sold on a strong active
trade. Calves sold at prices $3 to $5
higher and yearlings sold $5 to $10
higher.
Chris Smith of Brussels,
consigned 14 steers that averaged
1,589 lbs. and sold for an average
price of $143.78. One red steer
weighed 1,555 lbs. and sold for
$150. Robin Riehl of Gadshill,
consigned four head that averaged
1,431 lb.s and sold for an average
price of $128.78. Two red steers
averaged 1,318 lbs. and sold for
$142.
Southlore Farms of Palmerston,
consigned 18 head that averaged
1,405 lbs. and sold for an average
price of $133.95. One red heifer
weighed 1,450 lbs. and sold for
$142.50. Donald Cormack of Mount
Forest, consigned 41 heifers that
averaged 1,371 lbs. and sold for an
average price of $137.18. One rwf
heifer weighed 1,380 lbs. and sold
for an average price of $141.
There were 275 cows on offer.
Export types sold $54 to $70 to a
high of $75; Beef, $58 to $80 to a
high of $99; D1 and D2, $60 to $70;
D3, $50 to $60; D4, $40 to $45. Ron
Cunningham of South Bruce
Peninsula, consigned one charolais
cow that weighed 1,390 lbs. and sold
for $99.
There were eight bulls selling $70
to $90. Davidson Farm of Monkton,
consigned one red bull that weighed
1,990 lbs. and sold for $90.
There were 140 head of veal on
offer. Beef sold $145 to $167 with
sales to $201; good holsteins, $150
to $160 with sales to $171; Si heavy
holsteins, $130 to $145; heavy
holsteins, $115 to $130. Paul M.
Martin of Lucknow, consigned two
head that averaged 808 lbs. and sold
for an average price of $165.38. One
limousin heifer weighed 790 lbs.
and sold for $171. Lamar Frey of
Listowel, consigned two head that
averaged 813 lbs. and sold for an
average price of $186.87. One grey
steer weighed 805 lbs. and sold for
$201. Gerald VanSickle of
Thamesville, consigned 11 holstein
steers that averaged 673 lbs. and
sold for an average price of $153.98.
One holstein steer weighed 675 lbs.
and sold for $171.
Lambs, 50 - 64 lbs. sold $267 to
$297; 65 to $79 lbs., $235 to $325;
80 - 94 lbs., $229 to $256; 95 - 109
lbs., $195 to $230; over 110 lbs.,
$191 to $210.
Sheep sold $80 to $175 / lb.

$301; dairy, $212 to $260; nannies,

A new kind of breakfast club
The Harley Owner's Group made a $300 donation to the Breakfast for Learning campaign that
provides for the Maitland Munchies Program. The group held raffle prizes including donations
from Wingham-area businesses, yard sales, food sales and chili cook -offs to raise the funds
