Brussels Curling Club begins 2017/2018 season
The Brussels Curling Club
executive held its first meeting of the
year to discuss the 2017/2018
season. The curling season begins on
Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. New curlers are
welcome and can arrive at 6:30 p.m.
to receive instructions on how to
curl.
President Don Chesher held the
meeting at his home and the
different committees made their
reports. The draw committee was
instructed to draw up the three draws
with five games in a draw. They will
be calling past curlers to see if they
are curling this year. Anyone
wishing to curl this year is
encouraged to call Steve Steiss at
519-887-6670 and leave a message
at this number. The curling fees for
the year are $60 per draw or $180 for
the season.
The ice has been painted and Don
thanked Mery Bauer, Steve Steiss,
Steve Knight, Brian Warwick and
Karen Uhler for their time spent
painting.
Discussions included the
purchasing of some new brooms as
well as maybe purchasing a larger
nipper for ice preparation. Mike
Alexander will investigate the
purchase of brooms and Steve
Knight will look into the new nipper.
HMA gala
set for
Nov. 16
The Huron Manufacturing
Association (HMA) is inviting all
manufacturers, businesses and
supporters to their 2017 Awards of
Excellence Gala at the South Huron
Recreational Centre on Thursday,
Nov. 16.
Founded in 1998, the HMA
recognized the need for greater
awareness, community support and
further growth of Huron County's
manufacturing sector. The Awards
of Excellence Gala provides a
platform to share new product
developments, accomplishments,
and milestones with peers in the
manufacturing community.
"The Awards of Excellence Gala
is the right time and place to honour
Huron County Manufacturers for all
their accomplishments" said Joan
Wood, Gala Co-ordinator and local
manufacturer. "We invite you to
enjoy a delicious meal, featuring
locally -made wine and learn more
about amazing collection of local
manufacturers."
Preceding the gala, the HMA
hosts a trade show for attendees to
get `hands-on' with products
manufactured in the county. Tickets
for the HMA 2017 Awards of
Excellence Gala are $45. For more
information about the gala visit the
HMA website or call the office 519-
527-0305 and ask for Lisa.
The HMA is a unified voice of
Huron manufacturers who promote
industry growth by facilitating and
demonstrating leadership to a strong
manufacturing sector, while
providing opportunities and
celebrating achievements. To learn

The strategic planning committee
of Matt Cardiff, Janelle Caldwell,
Jennie Schimanski and Gary Pipe
presented their report on what they
would like to see happen during the
upcoming season. Fun is the top goal
for the group. We want people to
look forward to coming to curling
and to learn about curling and have
fun doing so. There should be more
information for new curlers so they
can understand the game better.
They suggested nametags for the
first few weeks to make it easier for
new curlers to know who they are
curling with and vice versa. They
want to shake up the teams with
everyone having a chance to skip
and include more food nights and
special event nights. A new
Facebook page for the club will be
started to remind folks of what's new
at the club, weather announcements,
etc.
Lots of great and fun ideas were
discussed and it sounds like the
group will keep the curling year
interesting for all.
