Brussels
Christmas
home tour
now set
By Denny Scott
The Citizen
The Brussels Horticultural
Society Christmas Home Tour will
be showcasing beautiful interiors
and exteriors of homes around the
village next month.
Scheduled for Nov. 17-18, the
event will see six houses around
Brussels put on display for ticket
holders.
The event runs 7-9 p.m. on Friday
night and 1-4 p.m. Saturday.
Saturday will also feature a
special tea and snack party at the
Brussels Library.
"The six houses we have range
from a practically brand new home
to a home that's over 150 years old,"
organizer Sandy Allison said. "They
have different styles, ages and looks
and I think they provide a good
range of different kinds of homes"
"We have professional decorators
and/or landscape architects helping
out the homeowners," she said. "The
businesses will be credited with
signs at the locations and are
mentioned on the tickets."
Locally, Solace on Turnberry has
helped one home. Other stores that
are contributing include the
Listowel Greenhouses, Melanie B
Floral Designs of Sebringville and
Jillian's from Mitchell.
Allison, whose home is part of the
event, has worked alongside Terry
Gray, another Horticultural Society
member whose home will also be
part of the tour, to make the event a
success this year.
Most of the homes have had some
help in preparing for the event,
Allison said.
"I've already started decorating,"
Allison said. "The house has glitter
from one end to the other. Even the
dog is sporting some glitter."
Tickets cost $20 and are available
at Cinnamon Jim's, Solace on
Turnberry and Turning Heads and
Making Waves in Brussels as well as
locations in Listowel, Wingham,
Mitchell, Sebringville, Seaforth and
Clinton. Tickets can also be sourced
through Allison at 519-887-8443.
Proceeds from the event will go to
the Horticultural Society and
Allison said it's up to the
organization how the funds are
spent, however she said she hopes
anything raised goes towards
something permanent in the village.
"Whether it's planters or benches
or something on the bridge like
flower boxes, we hope to fund the
purchase something that will
permanently beautify the
community."
