Fall Raily held at Kinloss
"What type of soil are you?" was
the question four women from
Kincardine put to the guests as they
led worship at the Maitland
Presbyterial Fall Rally at South
Kinloss Church on Monday Oct. 2.
The women from South Kinloss
offered a wide variety of fall
desserts to start off the evening and
Donna Sutton welcomed those
attending.
Four women from South Kinloss
presented a musical number,
accompanied by Dale Gilchrist at
the piano. President Mary Simmons
chaired the evening. Betty Johnston
from Ripley thanked the WMS on
behalf of two boys from Ripley who
were enabled by the Presbyterial to
attend Camp Kintail this past
summer.
Laura Newson introduced the
day's guest speakers: her friends of
30 years, Bob and Deb Loree of
Listowel, who have been
passionately involved with missions
in Bolivia for many years. They have
led mission trips from their church
in Listowel.
A woman in Bolivia named Greta
has started a project called
Emmanuel Foundation for children
in the red light district of
Cochabamka. It is a day centre that
provides nutrition, cleanliness,
crafts and learning for the children
of that city who have no one to take
care of them during the day. They
help children with special needs,
blind children and encourage
parenting skills in the
neighbourhood. The first building
had a second story added to it and
now a third floor is being built with
a classroom and a bedroom for eight
children who have nowhere to go for
the night.
A community garage sale is held
every year in Listowel to fund
Emmanuel Foundation. Many in
Bolivia have come to faith through
this project.
The Lorees were thanked by Mary
Simmons. Rosemary Neilson, Carol
Enright, Carol Scheill and Joan
Threndyl directed those in
attendance to Matthew 13:19-23, the
parable of the sower, and challenged
them to be good soil and produce a
bumper crop for the kingdom of
God.
Mae Raynard of Lucknow
thanked everyone who contributed
to the evening and Karen
Webster from Wingham closed in
prayer.
Jesus insists that
greed is a problem
Continued from page 12
Boston was right to discipline him.
We probably couldn't make this
same sort of decision collectively as
a church body today. However,
here's the question we need to ask
ourselves as Christians who want to
be careful in this tricky area of
greed, "Who are you accountable
to?" Which Christians have you
gathered around you where together
you can say to one another, "let's
talk and ask about how we
are spending our money on
ourselves. How much are we
keeping? How much are we giving
away?"
If Jesus is right, and He is, and
greed is a problem, more than that, it
is a problem we don't often
recognize in ourselves, then which
Christians have you authorized in
your life to ask you these questions?
Also, have they given you
permission to ask them the same
questions of them in return? You
have to talk about it to somebody.
Especially when Jesus says it's such
a common problem to which we are
blind.
