Blyth United fall supper set Oct. 21 From Marilyn's Desk Population boom Over the weekend, the village of Blyth swelled with five times its regular recorded population as, on Saturday, more than 6,000 people attended the Festival of Wizardry at the Blyth Campground. The event encouraged visitors to head to the village's downtown core resulting in wizards of all kinds flooding the downtown with a sea of wizard house colours, above. Quidditch, a sport that started in the fictional world of Harry Potter but has since found a real- world equivalent, was a big part of the event. ' *ea am By Marilyn Craig Call 523-9318 Greeting worshippers at Blyth United Church on Sunday, Oct. 15 was Marilyn Craig. Ushering were Brenda Brooks and Nicole Kerr. Robert Blackwell was guest pianist and Katie Dockstader, choir director. Hillary MacDonald welcomed everyone to church and drew everyone's attention to the announcements printed in the bulletin. Special mention that the Fall Supper is next Saturday, Oct. 21 from 4-6:30 p.m.. Tickets are available for the members of the Board of Stewards or by calling the church office at 519-523-4224 on Tuesday or Thursday mornings. Meat pie dates for November are Nov. 1 (turkey) and Nov. 15 (beef). These are the last dates for meat pies until the new year. If you wish to order call Donna Moore at 519-523- 9855. Hillary lit the Christ candle and invited everyone to greet one another on this damp rainy morning. The first hymn "Come In, Come In and Sit Down" was sung followed by the call to worship repeated responsively and the prayer of approach. The scripture reading was from Philippians 4:1-9. Hillary asked the children to come forward. She asked the children if they prayed at least once a week. Shoot game moved until further notice Happy anniversary to Brenda and Mac Brooks, who will celebrate their anniversary on Oct. 24. Happy birthday to Cliff Snell who celebrates Oct. 22; Kennan MacDonald, Oct. 23; Carson Lee, Oct. 24 and John Nesbit, Oct. 25. Shoot will be on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at the Blyth United Church until further notice. Blyth United Church is on the corner of Dinsley and Mill Streets. Cards start at 1 p.m. Come out and enjoy the fun and fellowship. Shoot is played the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month. Please note the change in venue. She explained to the children that she had a "hand prayer". The thumb represented a person close to their heart, like a mom or dad, because the thumb is close to your heart. The second finger, because it is the pointer finger, is a prayer for teachers or someone who teaches us. The third finger is the tallest finger and it is for heads of government someone like our Prime Minister or leaders.
