Cherrey takes to stage as Secret Garden's Colin
In his own `Secret Garden'
Audric Cherrey has made quite the splash in the acting
world since he and his family moved to the village last year.
Cherrey will take to the stage as Colin Craven, the male
protagonist of The Secret Garden, which is being produced
by Goderich Little Theatre at The Livery. The show runs
from Nov. 23 to Dec. 3 and is based on the Victorian
children's book. (Denny Scott photo)

reach out to men and it will also
reach out to men who have tried
their hands at building projects," he
said.
While men will find a comfortable
atmosphere in the play, McGregor
said it will appeal to women as well,
specifically the wives of the men
who might find themselves right at
home in a garage filled with
projects, other men and a beer
fridge.
"It's fun to see them see their
husbands on stage," he said. "The
women have a good time, but they
also discover the sensitivity and
silliness that isn't always apparent
from these kinds of gathering."
As for mounting the stage on the
newly -renovated Blyth Memorial
Hall stage, McGregor said he is
excited to see what it has to offer
from the other side of the curtain.
"I've looked at the stage and it
looks great and I saw every
production the Blyth Festival put on
this year," he said. "I loved the
production values and that had a lot
to do with the improvements to the
theatre."
McGregor said the renovation,
which included improvements to the
light and sound systems, will
definitely help excite people ahead
of the show.
The on-stage talent includes
Bundy, Susan Carradine, Van Osch,
Main, Steve Howard, Dave Siebert
and Steve Cook.
Behind the scenes McGregor has
had some significant help making
the play a reality. Lighting is
handled by Ross Barnett. The set is
being designed by Dave Siebert and
Sherri Milburn, the latter also being
responsible for costumes and decor.
Caitlin Carr is the stage manager and
will be joined by Izzy Siebert as
assistant stage manager.
Tickets cost $35 for adults or $25
for teenaged students and are still
available for the show through the
Blyth Festival box office at 519-523-
9300 or online at
www.blythfestival.com.

The Citizen
Blyth's Audric Cherrey will play
the lead male protagonist in the
Goderich Little Theatre's production
of The Secret Garden next month.
Cherrey, whose family moved to
Blyth last year, is no stranger to the
stage, having found a part in Straight
through the Heart, a play by the
same company that was staged last
year. The production dramatized the
events of the F3 tornado that
devastated Goderich and the
surrounding area six years ago.
Prior to moving to the area, he had
parts in the Drayton Festival's
production of The Wizard of Oz and
had parts in school before that
including two musicals.
He said, in a previous interview
with The Citizen, that he wasn't as
into sports as his brother Everett and
theatre is his extra -curricular activity
of choice.
For The Secret Garden, Audric
takes on the role of 11 -year-old
Colin Craven of Yorkshire, England.
"He thinks he is dying and has
never gone outside," he said.
Cherrey, who is the son of Sarah
and Derek, was originally informed
of the play by fellow Blyth resident
Jane Smyth who sent information
about the play to his family.
"I went and auditioned and when
they thought of who should play
Colin, they automatically said
Audric," he said.
The musical is right up Audric's
alley as he says he really enjoys
singing and the music in the play is
very upbeat and cheerful.
"I'm really amped up for it," he
said. "I was really very excited to get
the role."
While he is confident he will be
the right actor for the role now, he
did admit he was a little nervous
when auditioning because there was
a young boy whose voice brought
some people at the open audition to
tears.
"I thought I might not have a
chance against that, but I did," he
said.
Cherrey explains that Mary
Lennox is sent to live with with
Colin and his father after her parents
die.
Mary and Colin go on a journey of
discovery around Colin's family
manor that culminates in the
discovery of a garden that belonged
to Colin's mother who died several
years prior to Mary moving there.
"The two of them weren't aware
of each other," Cherrey said. "They
found each other and then found the
garden.
"The garden became their own
little secret," he said.
Preparing for the show has been a
good experience thus far, Cherrey
said, admitting that the auditions are
sometimes pretty long with some
lasting three hours.
"It's all worth it though," he said.
"I'm looking forward to being on
stage and looking forward to being a
part of the cast when we open."
As for the future, Cherrey said he
looks forward to whatever roles
come his way next, though he
doesn't have anything definitive on
his radar.
The play, by Sharon Burgett and
Jim Crabtree, runs from Nov. 23 to
Dec. 3. The production is based on
the Victorian children's book.
The show is directed by David
Armour alongside Musical Director
Louise Dockstader and features
puppetry and digital photography as
well as a talented cast of actors of all
ages.
Organizers say the show is perfect
for the whole family and tickets will
soon be available through The
Livery online at thelivery.ca or
through the box office at 519-524-
6262.
