FROM BELGRAVE Man -hunt results in arrest after several vehicles stolen A total team effort by the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) resulted in the arrest of a wanted man in Huron County on Oct. 6. A 33 -year-old male of no fixed address with ties to Huron, Perth, Wellington and Bruce counties had been wanted by Huron OPP in relation to a number of criminal offences that he is alleged to have committed in Huron and Perth Counties on Sept. 25. The man was wanted for a break, enter and theft that took place in Zurich during the early morning hours of Sept. 25. Additionally, he was identified by investigators as the male suspect that resisted arrest and fled from police in a stolen Wingham Police Service vehicle. On Oct. 6, at approximately 11 a.m., a Huron OPP officer spotted a stolen Chevrolet Camaro in Clinton that was being operated by the accused. Prior to being able to make contact with the driver the stolen Camaro took off at a high rate of speed and fled out of Clinton. Shortly after, the stolen Camaro was spotted by a Perth County OPP officer in Atwood. Once again, the accused took off and fled the area. Police then located the stolen Camaro abandoned south of Palmerston. The accused then committed a break, enter and theft in Palmerston where he stole a Dodge Ram pickup. He then returned to Huron County near Brussels whereupon he abandoned the stolen Dodge Ram pickup and stole a GMC pickup. At that point, several marked and unmarked OPP vehicles were deployed to the area in an effort to locate the suspect vehicle. With the assistance from OPP Aviation Services (Airplane Section) police personnel co-ordinated a takedown of the suspect vehicle on C -Line Road south of Gorrie. Upon coming to a stop the accused attempted to flee by ramming into one of the police vehicles. Ultimately, his attempt to flee was unsuccessful. Just after 5 p.m. he was taken into custody by members from the West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Canine and West Region Crime. He remained in custody with a video bail hearing scheduled for Oct. 7. The accused is facing several charges from the events of Oct. 6 along with numerous outstanding charges from several other OPP detachments and other municipal police services. Huron County OPP would like to thank the public and the media for their assistance with this ongoing investigation. Should anyone have information that may be helpful to investigators they are encouraged to call Huron OPP at (519) 524-8314 or 1-888- 310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) where you may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
