In last week's space I did a few
`shout -outs'. This week I offer
thanks and commendation to anyone
who, in small or grandiose ways,
showed or is still displaying, their
patriotism in this 150th Canadian
birthday. The rest of the world thinks
of Canadians as reserved about
celebrating their country but you
really showed your true feelings this
summer. It was wonderful to see.
But don't discard those items. Just
store them over the winter months
and find them again next July 1.
Aren't we proud to be Canadian
every year?
The item pictured this week comes
from the same owner of the licence
plate ornament. However, we have
no answer as to what it is. Perhaps
you can solve the mystery.

A 24 -year-old from North Huron
is facing a number of criminal
charges following an incident that
took place last month.
Shortly after 6 p.m. on Sept. 16
Huron County Ontario Provincial
Police (OPP) officers received
information from an off-duty police
officer that a stolen Chevrolet
Silverado had just been observed
travelling westbound on Harriston
Road at a dangerous speed.
Officers began patrolling for the
vehicle and a little while later a
different officer spotted the suspect
vehicle travelling southbound on
London Road forcing vehicles off of
the roadway.
Officers strategically followed and
a short distance away a Huron OPP
officer laid a tire deflation device
(spike belt) across Donnybrook
Line. The suspect vehicle ultimately
drove over the spike belt and the
vehicle was disabled. At that point
the suspect fled on foot into a nearby
bush lot.
Officers contained the area and,
with the assistance of West Region
Emergency Response Team (ERT)
and an OPP canine unit, police
tracked the male to a cabin where he
was taken into custody without
incident.
Upon further investigation police
verified the Chevrolet Silverado had
been stolen from Howick. In
addition, police recovered over
$4,800 in stolen property inside the
pickup truck.
