Celtic rock band Mudmen show set for Nov. 3 Mudmen The Mudmen, a Celtic rock band that has been entertaining audiences for nearly 20 years, are coming to Blyth Memorial Hall on Nov. 3. (Photo submitted) The Mudmen, Canada's Celtic Rock Warriors, will be bringing their near -20 years of musical experience to the Blyth Memorial Hall stage on Nov. 3. The Mudmen, who were co- founded by the Campbell brothers Robby and Sandy, have a long history in the musical world, stretching back to 1993 when the band was known as the Campbell Brothers. In 1998, the group changed their names to the Mudmen and have since been featured on television shows including Hockey Night in Canada's Coaches'Corner, HBO's Shameless, NBS's The Black Donnellys and also Don Cherry's Rock'em Sock'em Hockey videos. Robby recently told The Citizen that the group, which played the International Plowing Match in Walton last month, enjoy playing small-town venues because it gives them a chance to connect with existing fans as well as new ones. Despite being around for 20 years and having numerous big events to their names including performing for Queen Elizabeth II and playing at the 1984 Edmonton Oilers reunion, the band still finds people who haven't heard of them, but they usually leave as fans of the music. Robbie said this is likely due to the impact of Celtic heritage, especially in southern Ontario. "There are a lot of Irish and Scottish descendants here and it calls to them," he said. "The music has also spread across the world. It's getting more popular, like in Germany, where Celtic punk and rock have really gotten big." He said the music stands the test of time and says that bag pipes likely help a lot as they elicit strong reactions from people listening to the band. Currently, the group is working on a book to mark its 20th anniversary next year. Called 20 Years in the Mud, the book is scheduled to be released in April and will feature a foreword by Hockey Night in Canada's Ron MacLean who is a fan of the band. The band's performance at St. Anne's came just weeks after they opened for The Steve Miller Band to an 8,000 -person crowd in the U.S. Notably, the Ghost Town Blues Band also performed at B.B. King's funeral in May of 2015. Their performance at this event was a profound example of the respect that this band has garnered on the Memphis scene. Ghost Town is a top -tier blues band and they did an amazing job of performing and teaching the crowd of St. Anne's students a little bit about the blues. This event was sponsored by the West Coast Blues Society along with secondary sponsor: RBC Clinton. Partnerships with the Specialist High Skills Major Arts and Culture program and sponsorship from Al Meloche, audio services also helped to make this event possible. St. Anne's has enjoyed a close relationship with the local blues community. This show was booked through Rick and Marilyn Clarke Blues Productions. Rick and Marilyn run the Lighthouse Blues Festival in Kincardine and have brought other great acts to St. Anne's in the past including Juno award winner Jack de Keyzer in 2013.
