From the Minister's Study Autumn: a season of transformation and change By Student Minister Hillary MacDonald Blyth and Brussels United Church It's the most wonderful time of the year, and I'm not referring to Christmas. Rather autumn is my favourite time of year - a season full Memphis musicians perform in Clinton St. Anne's Catholic Secondary School Music and Specialist High Skills Major Arts and Culture students were recently treated to a performance of a lifetime. The Ghost Town Blues Band from Memphis, Tennessee performed at the school for 250 music and arts students. The Ghost Town Blues Band are Memphis' latest success story and are currently on a full-scale North American tour. In 2014, the band won second place at the international blues challenge in Memphis. This band is not your grandpa's blues band, their live show has been captivating audiences in the U.S. and Canada with a second -line horn entrance, cigar box guitars and electric push brooms to Allman Brothers -style Continued on page 22 t t t t t t t t t t t t t t 1Uvr\ C%itiaa Telldiip October 8: Jas. 3:2ff THANKSGIVING AND COMMUNION 12:00 NOON at H&B Shannon's 316 Hamilton Street, Blyth Evangelical Missionary Church Tuesdays 7:30 pm • Wingham Small Group at GSM Lisle's Wednesdays 10:00 am • Women's COFFEE BREAK Bible Study at Blyth CRC Wednesdays 6:30 pm • Youth Group at Huron Chapel, Auburn Pastor: Ernest Dow - 519-523-4848 getlivingwater.org of transformation and change. Children have been in school for a month, routines are beginning to feel settled and we are back into our groove of weekly programs and activities. When we look around, creation is in a constant state of change. The ground is beginning to harden as it prepares for winter, the trees are beginning to change colours, the crops are being harvested, and temperatures are getting cooler. This upcoming weekend, pies will be baked, turkeys will be carved, and family and friends will gather around the table to share in a Thanksgiving meal. It's the time of year that we pause and give thanks (>4) BRUSSELS for the many blessings in our lives, the abundance that God has given us and the gratitude we feel for the abundance. When we read 2 Corinthians, we know that God calls us to be a cheerful giver, offering our time, talents and treasures with an open and gracious heart. However, when we think of the word `Thanksgiving', how many of us break it down into two words? "Thanks" and "Giving"? When we separate the word and see it as two separate actions, this invites us into a new way of celebrating this holiday. Thanks and giving are two very different actions and for many of us, we only participate in the one. When we offer our thanks to God United Church Welcome to Sunday morning worship & Sunday School at 11:00 am Hillary MacDonald (905) 246-7386 Macdonald.hillary@gmail.com Everyone welcome 'You're SJ;u'ile' :JL, join 1 911 ttOrs/i p SUNDAY, OCTOBER 8 Morning Service 10:00 am Evening Service No evening service MONDAY, OCTOBER 9 Thanksgiving Service 10:00 am BLYTH CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH Minister: Pastor Gary van Leeuwen Hwy. 4, Blyth www.blythcrc.ca 519-523-4743 efromeel efuotaltactv Vae eitaftei You're Znvitec( to come worsh p with us Sunday, October 8 at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. 650 Alexander St. (former Blyth Public School) Sunday School for children 4 to 12 years of age at 9:30 a.m. Childcare provided for infants and preschoolers during the sermon. When we first glance at our community we may not see the need within it, however when we look at little deeper and listen for the heartbeat of the town, there is hurt, pain and need right here in North Huron. As we gather around a table in community and in fellowship, I invite you to offer thanks to God for the blessings in your life, and to share in those blessings with those in our community. As shared in 2 Corinthians "All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people, may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God" Wishing you the gift of faith and the blessing of hope this thanksgiving weekend.
