Earlier in the day, the squad started the tournament with a 10-3 win in five innings with Dewar and Daw pitching. Daw said the team finished with an impressive season record of 19-5 "The season was a full -team effort and the post -season was as well," he said. Both he and Dewar were called to the mound after Ty Sebastian missed the championships due to playing for Team Canada after playing with the team for most of the season. As for the win, he said everything was working the way it was supposed to. "We had great defence and great sticks and that's how we won," he said. "Everyone was having fun. The roster was more interested in having a good time and, when that happens, people play better." Minor baseball sign-ups pushed Brussels Minor Baseball has moved its sign-up period this year in an effort to make organizing the next season a little easier. Organization representative Shawn Daw told The Citizen that those looking to sign up for the 2018 season can do so the end of this month. Usually, the organization holds sign-ups in the spring, but Daw said that makes planning the season and finding volunteers for coaching and assisting the teams difficult. The organization will be holding its first-ever early sign-ups Oct. 24 and 26 in the upper hall of the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre, 6:30-8:30 p.m. A second sign-up period will be held in February for those who missed the October sign-ups. To encourage early sign-ups, however, the price in October will be lower than the price in February. For more information, contact Daw at 519-523-0056. Pickleball club seeks new players The Central Huron Pickleball Club league will play Tuesday evenings from 7 - 9 p.m. at the Central Huron Secondary School in Clinton this season. The season will run from Oct. 3 to the end of April, 2018. The game of pickleball is fun, easy to play and the club is open to high school students, seniors and all ages in between. The only equipment required is non -marking indoor shoes as the club provides balls and has some paddles for use. The cost to play is $5 per evening or a yearly membership of $50. "We had an amazing season last year with on average 18 players out per night filling the four courts available," said David Townsend co- ordinator of the Central Huron Pickleball Club. "Last season the club had increased membership and the new players within weeks were displaying pickleball skills compared to some experienced members." When asked why someone would play this game with the funny name, he said "it's a very social sport, it is a relative easy to learn (most in two sessions), all different skill levels play together and it is so much fun". When asked of the club's goals this year Townsend responded, "We would like to increase our membership in all age groups but especially the younger members." The game of pickleball has changed from a game for just seniors and snowbirds to a game for everyone and every skill level. Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in Ontario. It is a combination of tennis, badminton and table tennis. The game is played on a badminton -sized court with a whiffle ball, about the size of a tennis ball and a solid smooth surface, short -handled paddle larger than a ping pong paddle. The game is easy to learn and you do not have to be a great athlete to play. Pickleball is a great way to get active, keep active, and have fun at the same time. It has great aerobics value. If you are interested in playing come out Tuesday nights or contact the club by e-mail at chpickleball@gmail.com or call David Townsend at 519-482-3718. Anyone interested in joining can contact Daw at 519-523-0056 or any other member of the team. The Tigers would like to thank everyone who came out and supported them all year. Daw said that, thanks to those contributions, the squad was able to outfit the entirety of Brussels Minor Baseball. The Tigers had recently bought jerseys for some teams. Now, thanks to the team's annual tournament and community involvement, those teams that didn't get new jerseys will be taking the field next year in new threads. "We want to thank the community for their contributions throughout the years," he said. "It makes everything we do possible."
