RBI Team wins Brussels -Walton slo-pitch tournament PEOPLE AROUND WALTON By Jo -Ann McDonald Call 887-6570 The countdown is on and it's only six days until the biggest agricultural party in Huron. Over 1,400 volunteers gathered for a light breakfast at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre on Saturday morning — what a crowd! Everyone was learning about the safety issues and then about their jobs. We will all be hoping for great weather, great crowds and a great time for all. Our sympathies are extended to Murray Dennis and family on the passing of his brother Don Dennis of Midland. Don is survived by his wife Esther and children Joan, Warren and Diane and their families. Don was born and raised in McKillop Township and was an electrician in the area for many years. He moved to Midland over 30 years ago but tried to come back to the Walton area for many of the special functions Ceremonial Furrow During the International Plowing Match's sponsorship and media day on Sept. 6, a special ceremonial first furrow was cut through the Ryan family fields near Walton. To honour the theme of the show, which looks to the past, present and future of agriculture, three furrows were cut: one with a horse-drawn plow, one with a competition plow and one with a modern roll-over plow. held over the years. They get together every six to eight weeks for the day and are very close. The whole family gathered in Goderich to celebrate Aggie's sister, Martha's, 80th birthday on the weekend. The party was held in her church and was attended by many of the extended Van Veen family members, including brothers Garrett and Pete and wives, and sisters Ali, Aggie and Clara. Many relatives and friends were in attendance. Congratulations to Tim Fritz on reaching a milestone birthday on the weekend. The big 50 hit and a big party ensued. Happy birthday to Tim! On-site water treatment and testing, Knight said, will be conducted by the Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA). The Brussels sewage treatment plant will be accepting sewage during and after the match from RVs that will have access to holding tanks along Canada Company Road. Commuter applications filed By Shawn Loughlin The Citizen Huron East is applying for funding for two projects in Seaforth under the umbrella of the Ontario Municipal Climate Commuter Program. The two projects, the extension of Duke Street and Centennial Drive, aim to improve cycling infrastructure across the province. Chief Administrative Officer Brad Knight presented a report on the projects and on the application at council's Sept. 5 meeting. The project has a number of facets beyond the extension of the two streets. It would include the installation of directional signage at the corner of County Road 12 and Duke Street and the corner of Highway 8 and Centennial Drive that would indicate a designated cycling route. Bicycle lanes would be marked on the existing pavement to Highway 8 on Centennial Drive and from Duke Street to Chalk Street. Along the extensions, the shoulders will be widened to provide a paved shoulder and they will be marked as cycling routes. Council accepted Knight's presentation and approved the submission of the funding application. Let everyone know about our new bundle of joy! The Citizen 519-523-4792 or 519-887-9114 Knight said that this type of service is not new and the Brussels sewage treatment plant has accepted sewage in this capacity before, often from the Walton TransCan event. The anticipated sewage from the match is expected to be 250 cubic metres. Knight said that waste disposal arrangements have been made through Ben Driscoll so that Bluewater Recycling can collect waste on a daily basis during the match. All waste will be disposed at the Walton landfill site. The last two IPMs worked by Bluewater Recycling, Knight said, generated 110 and 120 tonnes of waste respectively. In his report to council, Knight said that the final budgetary impact of the IPM on the municipality and its departments will be calculated after the match. 2967 Brussels Army Cadets invites you to join the team at the Brussels Legion, Branch 218 Tuesdays 6:30 - 9:15 Free to join Please call 519-523-9422 or sgtdawson12@hotmail.com for more information
