Phosphorus management day set for Sept. 15
The Saugeen and Maitland Valley
Conservation Authorities are hosting
an innovative Phosphorus
Management Day on Sept. 15 in
Wingham. "Get the Dirt on
Phosphorus" will focus on common
phosphorus management problems
and stewardship solutions that will
help keep nutrients on the fields.
Participants can expect excellent
speakers, informative tours, tillage
demonstrations and equipment
displays.
The day -long program begins at 8
a.m. at the North Huron Wescast
Community Complex in Wingham.
The event is free and includes lunch.
Participants must register.
"We've put together an agenda
that will provide updates on the
latest research as well as
highlighting practical tips for
farmers," reported Tori Waugh,
Agricultural Outreach Co-ordinator
for both Saugeen and Maitland
Valley Conservation Authorities.
The event will begin with keynote
speakers from Agriculture and Agri -
food Canada as well as the
University of Guelph. Afterwards
participants will board buses to tour
several farms and facilities including
a phosphorus mobility research
station, strip till sites and equipment
modification demonstrations.
Representatives from the University
of Waterloo, Agronomy Advantage,
Ontario Ministry of Agriculture,
Food and Rural Affairs, Ontario Soil
and Crop Association, SoilWarrior,
Innovative Farmers Association of
Ontario and RealAgriculture will be
providing information during tours.
"Throughout the day, landowners
will have an opportunity to ask
questions and participate in plenty of
discussions," said Waugh. "We want
to keep the tour informal to
encourage as much exchange as
possible."
