Huron Chapel marks annual baptism in Maitland
What a spring and summer we
have had at Huron Chapel here in
Auburn. There are lots of changes
coming down the tube and they are
all for the better.
This past spring we found
ourselves in danger of exceeding our
building code on Sunday mornings
for how many people are allowed in
our sanctuary. So, we have decided
to go to two services this fall to make
room for more growth.
On Oct. 15 we will be holding two
services, one at 9 a.m. and the other
at 11 a.m. Between these two
services from approximately 10:15
a.m. to 10:45 a.m. we will be
holding our coffee time downstairs,
where people coming out of the first
service can visit and chat with those
coming to attend the second service.
By the way, we updated our coffee,

No county staff support for trail
By Shawn Loughlin

Huron County Council will not be
assigning a staff member to work
with representatives of the Port -to -
Point Trail to help them find
funding.
Council, at its Aug. 2 committee
of the whole meeting, recommended
that council pen a letter of support
for the trail and that representatives
work with the Huron County
Cycling Advisory Committee to
help advance the project.
The project had come under fire at
a recent council meeting after
councillors criticized the lack of
progress on the project in the years
since it was first announced.

to play at the Brussels Farmers' Market on Friday
afternoon. The market committee has decided to not

Late last month, Warden Jim Ginn
hosted the tournament. As a result of
the overwhelming response to the
tournament, the county rounded the
amount of money donated up to
$11,000 and presented it to the
organization at the Aug. 2
committee of the whole meeting.

Council approved an official plan
amendment in North Huron that will
allow for the expansion of the play
yard area for the abutting Sacred
Heart Catholic Elementary School.
The amendment's purpose was to
change the land use designation for
the Victoria Street lot in Wingham
from residential zoning to
community facility.

At a special council meeting held
after the Aug. 2 committee of the
whole session, council passed a
bylaw to officially name Meighan
Wark the acting chief administrative
officer for Huron County. Her term
will last six months.
Country Quilting
and speaking as a connoisseur of the
bean, I can tell you this coffee is
very good.
This year, we broke the record
books with our Vacation Bible
School by hosting 277 children
altogether and averaging over 220
children each day. Our church and
community volunteers once again
shone all week long with 70 people
giving of their time and talent. What
really moved me is the fact that there
is a group of men who take their
holiday time to help us out at
Vacation Bible School. I have never
heard of such a thing, but I am truly
grateful.
On Aug. 20 we made our annual
pilgrimage down to the Maitland
River here in Auburn to baptize
people. Once again this year the
Scott family of the Riverside Retreat
here in Auburn welcomed us down
to their place with open arms. Last
year Joel Scott and a couple of our
church men built concrete stairs up
and over the river bank making it
much easier to people to navigate
themselves to the water's edge. This
year we baptized seven people both
young and old. Each shared a
testimony of why they wanted to be
baptized and what Jesus Christ
meant to them in their life. It really
is one the highlights of the church
year. After the service this year, the
Scott family suggested we have a
potluck after the baptismal service
next year. Potlucks always make it
more of an official church event,
right?
We are also excited that 10 men
from Huron Chapel have formed a
tug-of-war team to compete
in the International Plowing Match
this year headed up by Gary
Sutcliffe.
They are calling themselves the
Huron Chapel Turbo Tuggers.
We will be cheering them on for
sure.
Just a note to our wonderful
neighbours in Auburn. Huron
Chapel does not go door-to-door
soliciting funds for any church
program or project. If someone
comes to your door asking for funds
on our behalf please notify us
immediately
