Rodeo coming
Turkey Run Ranch of Brussels has
teamed up with the RAM Rodeo
Tour to ensure the RAM Rodeo Ring
at the 2017 International Plowing
Match and Rural Expo (IPM) is
always in the hustle and bustle.
Huron County natives Brian and
Jo -Anne Workman operate Turkey
Run Ranch and offer exciting
demonstrations and competitions.
Brian, Jo -Anne and their crew of 10,
have travelled across southwestern
Ontario to different fall fairs and
expos.
In the cowboy obstacles, the down
and back includes two riders racing
horses down and back completing
six different obstacles along the
way.
The cowboy trail challenge
replicates what a horse and rider
may encounter on a ride through the
forest. Riders will compete against
one another navigating a designed
pattern of fallen trees and a bridge
crossing.
The birds of prey demonstration
to IPM
on the Wednesday of the IPM in the
RAM Rodeo Ring showcases how
eagles, owls and hawks hunt and
survive in the wild.
The working ranch demo is a 40 -
minute explanation of how a ranch
operated in old west, when cattle
roamed free, with no fences, barns or
feedlots. Taking care of livestock
was very different then, but these
old-fashioned tasks are the founda-
tion of all modern-day quarter horse
competitive events. Just like today,
cowboys represented their ranch in
competitions, riding for their brand
and bragging rights. See this show,
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
IPM 2017 takes place Sept. 19 –
23, 2017 in Walton. Tickets will be
available at the gates on the day of
for $18 per person. More
information about all the
entertainment schedules and
programming for IPM 2017 can be
found online at plowingmatch.org/
ipm-2017 or pn the Facebook Page
Huron IPM 2017.

Anglers
charged
Three anglers from southern
Ontario have been fined a total of
$1,900 for separate offences in
Goderich.
Seng Wong of Kitchener pleaded
guilty to catching and retaining
smallmouth bass during the closed
season and was fined $600. His
fishing partner, Lei Chen of
Waterloo, pleaded guilty to fishing
without a licence and received a
$600 fine.
Court heard that on June 21, 2017,
Clinton -area conservation officers
contacted Wong and Chen fishing
together on the north shore of the
Maitland River in Goderich. Wong
was found to be in possession of
three smallmouth bass during the
closed season. Chen, who was
tending to the stringer containing the
bass, and two walleye, was found to
be fishing without a valid licence.
Chen hasn't had a fishing licence
since 2014.
Jun Zhou of Toronto pleaded
guilty to possessing an over -limit of
smallmouth bass and was fined
$700. Court heard that on July 6,
2017, Clinton -area conservation
officers received information from
citizens that Zhou was seen catching
and retaining up to nine smallmouth
bass on the north shore of the
Maitland River in Goderich. The
officers contacted Zhou and found
him in possession of nine
smallmouth bass, three over the
legal sport fishing limit. Three of the
fish were hidden in long weeds
adjacent to his cooler.
Justice of the Peace Sue Stewart
heard the cases in the Ontario Court
of Justice, Goderich, on Tuesday,
Aug. 22.
Anglers are reminded to stay
within prescribed limits for the
species they are targeting and to
angle only during the open season.
