IPM countdown is on with two weeks to event
Not built in a day
The Tented City is taking shape at the site of the International Plowing Match outside of
Walton. The match will take place later this month and, by then, Advanced Tent Rental will
have dozens of tents erected across the premise. Employees of the group are shown above

WALTON

Well, summer is gone and school
is back in session. The smiling faces
of children excited to see old friends
and meet their new teachers are
back. Even the weather changed last
week and had the feel of fall in the
air. Chilly in the morning, lovely and
warm in the afternoon and back to a
chilly wind in the evening.
The countdown is on and it's only
two weeks and the International
Plowing Match will become a
reality. The work of the many
volunteers will showcase our
Walton area, our talented organizers,
our talented entertainers and our
hardworking Huron County
volunteers as we welcome thousands
of visitors to our area.
Memories will be made, of events,
of the crowds, of the hard days of
work and of the co-operative jelling
of the many ideas, now becoming
reality. The residents of Huron
County owe a huge thank you to the
27 members of the executive
committee for their four-year
commitment of working non-stop to
bring this event to Huron and the
Walton area. A big thanks to the
Ryan family and surrounding
landowners who agreed to the land
use. Now, let's all work together and
have some fun during the week of
the match!
Our village and area towns are
getting on board with decorating
their homes or businesses and
making the area welcoming to all the
visitors coming to see our area. We
have a beautiful rich farm area and
we should be proud.
The beautification gala for the
IPM was held on Thursday evening
at the Seaforth Community Centre.
Nearly 500 attended the event and
enjoyed the delicious meal provided
by our own Cardiff Catering. The
evening highlighted the many efforts
of the various sponsors, the singing
of the official song of the 2017 IPM

Amanda McClure and Jack Storey,
written by Sherry and Murray
McCall, a school speech by Grace
Hallahan, a live auction by our own
auctioneer Kevin McArter, launch of
the 2017 barn quilt trail book,
entertainment by the Ballaghs and
the presentations of the awards.

Our sympathies to the family of
the late Stella Smith. She will be
missed by her daughter Kim
Peacock and partner Cam Ross and
grandchildren Melissa, Tommy,
Marie, Brian, and Miranda and
families. Stella was a well-known
face around the Brussels area for
many years and had been married
to the late John Smith. She moved to
Listowel many years ago and made
many new friends. Our condolences
to all.
Our sympathies are extended to
the Kirkby family on the passing of
Marlene Kirkby. She will be missed
by her husband Murray and family
of Scott and Tara and their families.
Murray will be remembered by some
of the Walton area folks and Marlene
was raised in the Fordwich area. Our
condolences to all.
Jim and Leona Armstrong and
family were visited by Edilson
Secco and his daughter Aline from
Brazil. Jim and Edilson met 20 years
ago due to their interest in the
Pietenpol aircraft and the families
have visited several times. During
this trip Edilson and Aline enjoyed
touring through Huron County and
visiting the Armstrong farm.
