Labour Day weekend means many different things to many different people. For children and
teens it signifies the last hurrah of the summer, for those going to college or university it's
move -in week and for the Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby Association, the Labour Day
weekend means the time has come to get the Blyth Campground ready for its annual reunion.

G2G, Greenway issue clarified
By Denny Scott
The Citizen
The party responsible for the
maintenance of the Greenway Trail,
which had been questioned last
month, was cleared up at a recent
North Huron Council meeting.
During a Blyth Business
Improvement Area (BIA) meeting
earlier this year, Councillor Bill
Knott had voiced concerns about the
lack of maintenance on the
Greenway Trail, a portion of the
G2G that runs through North Huron,
specifically Blyth.
During a North Huron Council
meeting last month, however, it was
revealed that the G2G group is not
responsible for the trail, North
Huron is.
"My assumption was G2G was
going to assume our lease on that
property," Knott said at the North
Huron meeting. "That's what I
understood from the beginning "
At the BIA meeting, Knott said he
had concerns with how the G2G
group had been maintaining the trail
and the fact that a breached entryway
to the trail had resulted in ATVs on
the trail.
During the council meeting, Knott
asked Director of Recreation and
Facilities Pat Newson to explain the
relationship between North Huron
and the G2G group.
Newson said North Huron had
signed a lease with a company that
maintains the lands for the province
and that lease remains in place until
2020. She said the lands are under
the care of North Huron.
"At the time we signed, there were
a lot of questions regarding the trail,"
she said.
According to Newson, the final
plan from G2G is to have another
organization hold the lease on the
properties and then maintain it.
Some leases were already in place
when G2G started preparing the trail
and the group will pursue those
leases when they expire.
"So we are still responsible for the
maintenance of the trail," Knott
affirmed.
He asked what could be done to
make sure that gates at either end of
the Greenway trail, designed to keep

motor vehicles off the trail, remain
closed, saying he felt there is now
more ATV traffic than foot traffic on
the trail.
Newson explained the gates are
typically opened by snowmobilers
during that season, but throughout
the warmer seasons, North Huron
staff have to keep the gates closed.
She said she would ask staff to patrol
the area and suggested that members
of public contact North Huron if the
gates have been tampered with.
"There is no real 24/7 method of
keeping it locked other than people
reporting it," she said.
Council also discussed a bridge
that is on the section of the trail it
maintains and staff stated they had
no luck getting in touch with the
local snowmobile club which has
worked on the bridge in the past.

He gives His beloved sleep!
(Arthur Pink)
"He gives His beloved sleep." Matthew 1:21
How often is it lost sight of, that the Lord cares for the bodies of His
saints --as well as for their souls. Sleep is a Divine gift --but the nightly
recurrence of it blinds us to the fact. Sleep is as imperative for our
physical well -being --as is food and drink. Sleep is as much the gift of our
heavenly Father, as is the other.
When it so pleases Him, God withholds sleep --and then we have to say
with the Psalmist, "You kept my eyes from closing" Psalm 77:4. But that
is the exception rather than the rule --and deeply thankful should we be
that it is so. Day by day the Lord feeds us --and night by night, "He gives
His beloved sleep."
We should perceive the gracious hand of God ministering in tenderness
to all of our daily needs. He is mindful of our frailty --and tempers His
dealings with us accordingly. He is aware when our energies are spent,
and graciously renews our strength and mercifully refreshes our bodies
with sleep.
Alas, how little are we affected by the Lord's goodness and grace unto us.
The unfailing recurrence of His temporal and spiritual mercies --incline us
to take them for granted. So dull of understanding are we, so cold our
hearts Godward--it is to be feared that most of the time we fail to realize
whose loving hand it is, which is ministering to us.
Is not this the very reason why we do not begin to really value our health-
-until it is taken from us? It is not until we spend night after night tossing
upon a bed of pain --that we perceive the worth of regular sleep with which
we were formerly favoured. And such vile creatures are we, that when
illness and insomnia come upon us, instead of improving the same by
repenting of our former ingratitude --we murmur and complain at the
hardness of our present lot, and wonder what we have done to deserve
such treatment!
O let those of us who are still blessed with good health and regular sleep-
-not fail to daily return thanks for such privileges, and earnestly seek
grace to use the strength from them to the glory of God!
"Let us thank God for common mercies --for they prove to be
uncommonly precious, when they are once taken away!" Charles
Spurgeon
