Little Ambassador lookin
forward to work ahead
First rounds
One of the first responsibilities of the Brussels Junior Ambassador Emily Bieman and Little
Ambassador Casey Bernard was to participate in a craft day at the Brussels Library over the
weekend. The crafts made that day, the second of its kind this year, will be on display at the
Brussels Fall Fair tent at the International Plowing Match (IPM) in Walton. From left: Beckett

At the Branch
Service officer to visit October
By Jo -Ann McDonald
The week at the Brussels Legion
Branch began with the regular
executive meeting for the month of
August. The general meetings will
resume in the month of September.
The membership drive for 2018
starts in the month of September.
The dues for the 2018 are $50 until
November 30 and then rise to $55.
Comrades paying their dues during
the months of September, October
and November will have their names
entered into the early bird draw.
They may be a winner of their 2019
dues so the sooner your dues are
paid, the greater your chance to win!
Drop in today.
The Provincial Service Officer
will be in the area in the month of
October, so if any Comrades are
needing an appointment, please
speak with Branch Service Officer
Mabel Glanville.
The Branch hosted a meeting on
Monday evening with the Zone
Branch Bursary and Youth Chairman.
The Clinton Raceway is holding
the drivers' challenge and
fundraising day for Legions this
Sunday. A smoked pork chop dinner
is part of the day and tickets are $20
and are available at the Branch.
Discussions about the meals being
served at the Branch during the
International Plowing Match (IPM)
were held. The Branch is hoping to
serve 200 each night beginning

Outgoing Brussels Fall Fair
Ambassador Patti Blake attended the
Ontario Ambassador of the Fairs
competition which rain Aug. 18-20
at the Canadian National Exhibition
(CNE).
Blake said what she enjoyed most
was meeting the other ambassadors
and experiencing the CNE with
them.
She valued the opportunity to
make so many connections
throughout the province while
having fun doing so.
Blake was cheered on by her
parents by Nicole and Kendry Noble
and Ruth Lowe from Brussels during
the final day of the competition.
The winner of the competition was
from Erica Sayles of Paris.
Sunday, Sept. 17 until Thursday,
Sept. 21. There will be three shifts
of workers needed: mornings doing
prep work, afternoons for preparing
and cooking to serve and late
afternoon for serving, busing tables
and clean-up. The more help, the
better. There are five nights of
duties. Hopefully Comrades will
call to volunteer, as will students.
The Branch is busing people from
the RV park at the plowing match, as
well as being open to public. All
meals will be by reservations only.
The fish fry crew was away on the
weekend to a campground in
Bayfield. The crew fed 150 and
working for the day were Deb Ross,
Judy Lee and Deb Cann. Good job
by all.

Brussels Fall Fair Little
Ambassador Casey Bernard is
excited about the adventures she is
going to have representing the
Brussels Agricultural Society.
The Maitland River Elementary
School student was named Little
Ambassador at the ambassador
competition held at the Brussels
Legion earlier this month.
As part of the competition, she
talked about how much fun it was
going to the Brussels Fall Fair.
Bernard, who is going into Grade 4
next week, was thrilled to win the
competition.
"I was really excited and I was
happy," she said. "I kind of
wondered what was going to happen
for the rest of the year being the
Little Ambassador."
It turns out that she didn't have to
wait long to find that out.
Aside from monthly meetings
through being the Little
Ambassador, Bernard has already
been helping out with other events,
including attending the second of
two craft days at the Brussels
Library on Sunday.
All the crafts will be on display at
the Brussels Fall Fair tent at the
International Plowing Match next
month.
"The craft day was good," she
