Johnston and Will Ridley of Brussels and Wade Robinson of Wingham. Assistance Coach

Belgrave church services resume
PEOPLE AROUND
BELGRAVE
By Linda
Campbell
Call

Church at Knox United resumed
for the first Sunday of August with
guest preacher Elly Dow, who
welcomed everyone to the basement
service. There was lots of
conversation and chatting amongst
friends from Knox, Trinity,
Dungannon and Wingham. Birthday
wishes were sung to Jim and Doris
Taylor and 33rd anniversary wishes
to Don and Marlene Proctor.
As part of her message for the day,
Elly shared some insights of recent
trip to Victoria with the Gospel story
of the feeding of the 5,000 and the
words of Paul in his letter to the
Romans of how: "if God is with us,
who can be against us'. With God's
help all things are possible.
Special thanks to Jim Taylor for
sharing his gift of music, to Kendra
Robinson for reading the scripture
lessons and Nancy Jardin for sharing
the mission and service minute and a
warm welcome back to Ann Clark at
the piano.
The community extends sincere
sympathy to Donna Marks in the
loss of her husband Murray, who
passed away on July 30.
The worship leader at Knox
United Church on Sunday, Aug. 13
was Bonnie Mair. "Come Touch Our
Heart" was the hymn sung by the
choir accompanied by Ann Clark.
"Are you a know -so or a hope -so?"
was the title of the sermon.
There is no church in Belgrave on
Sunday, Aug. 20. On Sunday, Aug.
27 church is at Ken and Lila
Procter's pond at 11:15 a.m. In the
event of rain the service will be in
the church.
Community coffee break is on
Tuesday, Aug. 22 at the arena at 9:30
a.m.
On Sunday, Aug. 14 the Campbell
relatives gathered at the Belgrave
Ball Park picnic area under the
sunny skies for their annual picnic
and get-together. This year Harold
and Nancy Jardin and family hosted
it with over 50 people attending
from far and wide with Collin and
Susan Campbell and family
attending from Calgary, Alberta.
After Nancy Jardin said the
blessing, a bountiful buffet dinner
was enjoyed. The afternoon was
spent visiting, sharing photos and
the children enjoying the playground
equipment. Kendall, Debbie and
Lora Jardin entertained the children
with numerous games and lots of
prizes to be won.
Nancy awarded prizes for various
things. An enjoyable afternoon was
brought to a close by hugs and
wishes for a safe trip home and each
thanking Nancy and Harold
and family for a great job
well done.

Proposed Wingham gas
station gets council nod
A new gas station in Wingham has
received support from North Huron
Township Council, however the site
will require some significant
planning.
North Huron Township Council
supported a site plan for the
development during its Aug. 8
meeting that will see a gas station
built at the former Cullen Motors
building near the south end of
Wingham. Part of that structure will
remain and be used for the project
while the rest will be demolished.
The plan had a laundry list of
requirements due to its location
which is close to the flood plains in
the south of the town and a former
landfill.
Huron County Planner Laura
Young, in response to a question
from Deputy -Reeve James
Campbell, explained that everything
at the site will be raised and flood -
proofed before it moves forward.
Council approved the plan with
the recommendations of the Huron
County Planning Department.
Price of M -T history
books reduced for IPM
The Morris-Turnberry history
books will be sold at a special price
during the International Plowing
Match this September.
While the municipality can't sell
anything through its location at the
Huron County Showcase at the
match, the books will be available
through the municipal office for a
drastically -reduced price.
The two -tome history regularly
costs $131, however, after council
had some discussion, council
decided to sell the books for $49.95
per set or $29.95 for individual
books that cover Morris or
Turnberry.
Approximately half of the original
1,000 book run is still available, with
between 450 and 500 being sold at
that time and others being given to
local groups as silent auction items
or prizes for various events.
Mayor Paul Gowing said that,
whatever council did, it needed to
remember that some people had paid
the full price for them. However he
did say that having so many of them
left and storing them wasn't the
reason the books were originally
composed.

office at 519-887-6137 or visit
