Have you taken the time to really
see the green in our lives? Driving
the countryside or checking the
backyard, the vibrant shades of
green are evident. The different
crops, the grasses and the trees all
hold their own hue. Together they
are awesome. So as much as we
mutter about the rain, and the
mosquitoes, the good part is there as
well.
The purpose of Kids' Corner is to
see the people in our community as
friends, to help someone and to learn
something new. For another year, it
worked. Last week, the days looked
as though fun was being had, as
stories and songs were shared. A
bonus, the North Huron Food Share
has $500 more to do its work, from
the daily offering. So thanks to the
children, the volunteers and the
Kintail on the Road crew, another
good week.
The International Plowing Match
is fast approaching and promotion is
part of the game. Volunteers for the
IPM attended the Brussels Farmers'
Market on Friday to share
information and to show the many
articles available to wear while
promoting the upcoming match.
The barn quilt idea is another way to
promote the match so take time as
you're driving about to admire the
many fine barn quilts in our area.

The sign-up sheet is coming along
for the food booth at the Brussels
Tigers annual fastball tournament
this weekend, but with only a few
members calling to volunteer.
Sandra is calling to fill in the time
spaces that need workers, so be
ready for the call.
Congratulations to Ryan Jacklin,
yet again, as he continues to have
fantastic success in his track and
field endeavours. Ryan scored triple
gold in the Provincial Legion Track
and Field competition in Windsor
last week. He is now a member of
the Ontario team, which will travel
to Manitoba for competition in early
August. Good luck to Ryan!
The Saturday afternoon euchre
had 10 tables of players at play.
Comrades Dianne Huether and Deb
Cann were in charge for the day.
Winners were: first, Bruce and Joan,
81; second, John and Iola Subject,
72; third, Harold and Nancy, 70; low,
Jean and Alice, 38; lone hands, Mac
and Lillian, five. Euchre is every two
weeks.
The Sunday night dance had a
good crowd of about 70 people to
enjoy the music of Crippled Duck. A
fine job by the dedicated Sunday
night girls of Judy Lee, Mabel
Glanville, Mary Bradshaw and Jo-
Ann McDonald. Bartending duties
were handled by Ron and Daisy
Schmidt.
There is a busy weekend ahead as
well as a busy month. The Brussels
Legion Branch continues its
fundraising efforts by hosting two
Blyth Festival dinners, a new
venture for the Branch and has three
fish fry dinners ahead, two euchres
and one dance in August. That
should keep everyone out of trouble
and busy. The Branch will be
looking for help for many of these
events.

was a toe -tapping time and the meat
on a bun was so popular that it was
pretty well devoured by supper time.
Sounds like a success to me.
For the gardeners in our midst, the
sight of the first ripe tomato is
celebration time. What's even better
is to be the neighbour of a gardener
and be privileged to be part of that
sharing. Thanks, Edith, John and
Jason.
Plans are flying about as specific
and personal summer holiday time
approaches. Cottages, camping,
motels, bed and breakfasts are all
part of the summer plans that are
being nailed down as the days
approach. What fun. Water, zoos,
caves, theme parks, hikes and bikes
are all in the mix of summer
entertainment.
Have a good time wherever your
plans take you.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
