Flowers, Smith join plowing match Lifestyles tent
The International Plowing Match
and Rural Expo (IPM) strives to not
only celebrate agriculture but rural
living and those who live in rural
communities. A major contribution
to the celebration of rural living is
through the Lifestyles Tent.
Over the five days of IPM 2017,
Brenda Dalton and Cheryl Ryan, co-
chairs of the Lifestyles Tent, have
co-ordinated an exciting week of
speakers, demonstrations and
competitions surrounding local food,
gardening, fashion and successful
living.
Brenda and Cheryl are excited to
announce that Frank Ferragine, also
known as Frankie Flowers, and
Marilyn Smith will be on stage in the
Lifestyles Tent at IPM 2017.
Ferragine is one of Canada's most
trusted gardening experts. He is a
regular guest on City's Breakfast
Television, is a four -time bestselling

PEOPLE AROUND
WALTON

Another week of my summer
holidays has raced by and it was a
busy week. We had some nice
weather and some rain, of course,
and some cool weather. It is always
a challenge to know how to dress in
the morning.
The Huron County Beef Producers
held their annual steak barbecue
evening on Wednesday night and
had a good crowd of almost 300
people. Chefs Don Sholdice, Kevin
McArter and helpers did an
excellent job of cooking as well as
all the Beef Producers executive
who worked hard during the
evening.
The Grand Sparks program was
run this week at the Edge of Walton
course. There were 25 Grand
Sparks, pairs of grandparents and
grandchildren in attendance. They
learned how to work together in
activities, went bike riding, games,
canoeing, trail walking, helped each
other through some of the challenge
course, high tower and lower tiers,
and learned about each other and
what they could accomplish on their
own and together. It was a great
week for all.
The Walton Raceway had the Steel
City Riders from the Hamilton Club
area on the track this past weekend.
They had a good two days and a full
attendance.
The Walton Hall hosted a Blyth
Festival dinner on Friday evening
and fed nearly 50 diners. They
enjoyed a roast beef dinner before
heading off to Blyth to see the show.
Hall Board members helping were
Judy Lee, Barb Durrell, Judy
Emmrich and Jo -Ann McDonald.
They also had the help from a young
lady working for her high school
community service hours in
Torrance.
A number of friends got together
to celebrate LeeAnn McDonald's
birthday. LeeAnn, Kelly, Alicia
McDonald and Val Collins went to
the 1990s night at the Rock the Park
concert in Harris Park in London.
They saw a number of 1990s bands.
There was lots of 1990s attire and
the girls had a great time together.
The Walton Brewers went to
Frankenmuth, Michigan to play in a
fastball tournament on the weekend.
The team played against teams from
Bremen, Indiana, Frankenmuth and
Marshall, Michigan and Goshen,
Indiana. Unfortunately, they lost two
of their games by a single run and
lost playing in the C semi-final.
They enjoyed the experience and
had a good time.
Neil McDonald has arrived in the
east to spend a couple of weeks here.
He has lots of plans for his time here
and will host a family reunion before
he leaves.
A community shower was held for
Danica Zwep on Friday evening. It
was a come -and -go at the home of
Steve and Rita Bowers. There was a
lovely crowd arrive to enjoy a visit
with Danica, see the beautiful gifts
presented to her and enjoy the lovely
lunch provided. Danica thanked all
for their generous gifts she received.
Margaret and Rick Mclnroy and
friends are back from a six week trip
to the west. The draw to the Yukon is
Rick Mclnroy has a sister-in-law and
nephews that live in Whitehorse,
Yukon. Rick himself worked there
twice, for several years in the prison
system, no, not as a prisoner, and as
an expeditor for a motor repair
company.
The crew went as far as Dawson
City, Yukon where travel -mate, Joe
Hallahan was on stage with the
CanCan Girls at Diamond Tooth
Gertie's!
They took a day trip to Skagway,
Alaska, which is just south of
Whitehorse. On the way to the
Yukon, they stopped at Airdrie, to
visit with old neighbour Jean
Bewley. They report she is doing
well and loves her place in Airdrie,
which is quite close to daughter
Brenda and her family.
Their course on the way west took
them via Banff and Banff National
Park, and north to Jasper through the
Jasper National Park. Then on to the
Stewart Cassiar Highway through
British Columbia and they joined
into the Alaskan Highway just to the
west of Watson Lake. The group
enjoyed beautiful scenery, lots of
wildlife to see and a bear, very close
to the highway for great pictures.
They returned home via the
Alaskan Highway and on to the
Yellowknife Highway towards
Edmonton, where they diverted to
go to Rae McClure's. He lives in
Forestburg, Alberta, just south east
of Edmonton. They had dinner and
a good visit with Rae before heading
east. They had really no problems
until near Winnipeg when an
alternator in the motorhome decided
to quit at 5 p.m. on a Friday night.
Getting it fixed only took the day,
but it was expensive.
They are glad to be back, had a
wonderful trip and look forward to
their next adventure. Welcome back
folks!
