It was a weekend of weddings in
the area. Congratulations to
Matthew Ryan and bride Meaghan
Kennedy on their marriage on
Saturday. The couple wed at St.
Ambrose Church and the reception
was at parents, Paul and Cheryl
Ryan's, farm. The shed was
decorated in mauve and silver and
the guests enjoyed a social time,
dinner, reception and fireworks. The
young couple will reside on Division
Line. Congratulations to the
newlyweds.
Heading down Blyth Road we go
to the wedding of Ben Hoegy and
Darlene Smith. The couple wed at
the farm of Karen Hoegy in a lovely
outdoor service. Ben is the son of
Karen and the late Barry Hoegy and
Darlene is the daughter of Harry
Smith and the late Grace Smith. The
dinner and reception were held in the
shed decorated in black and white.
The bride and groom were attended
by their immediate family members.
The guests enjoyed a social time,
dinner, fireworks and reception. It
was a lovely evening for all. The
couple reside on Newry Road.
Congratulations.
The third wedding of the weekend
was the joining in matrimony of
Wild and woolly adventure
At its annual summer carnival, Huronlea Home for the Aged had a barbecue, face painting,
ropemaking and games, as well as a petting zoo. Taking advantage of the latter to get up close
and personal with some wild animals are Bentley Murray-Grice and animal handler Morgan
Flanagan. (Denny Scott photo)
Sandra Josling and Jim Brown.
The couple was wed in the
beautifully decorated backyard of
their home with about 30 family
members and guests. The couple was
attended by their three children. The
guests were completely surprised by
the event, as they thought they were
attending Jim's 65th birthday party
and arrived to find a wedding. The
men, Jim, Chris and Devon were
dressed in crisp white shirts and
black ties and the bride was dressed
in a lovely red dress and maid of
honour, Catrina, was also in black.
Following the wedding,
entertainment was provided by
Adam Cousins. The meal was
prepared by the couple and after
changing into comfy clothes,
birthday cake and campfire were
enjoyed. Congrats to Jim and
Sandra!
FROM WALTON
Sympathies extended
to mourning families
Our thoughts and prayers are with
the Adam Smith family as they deal
with the serious effects of Adam's
fall last week.
Our sympathies are extended to
the Huether family on the passing of
Margery Huether. She will be
missed by her two sons, Steven and
John and their families. Margery
was a teacher and an accomplished
pianist, and was called on to play
many times at church, social events
and parties. She farmed alongside
her husband, Ray, until farming
duties were taken over by the family.
She retired to her new home in
Seaforth and became a traveller. She
toured many countries, wintered in
Florida and loved to travel with her
friends. Margery loved to attend and
support many social events and was
a regular presenter of the Margery
Huether Music Award at the
Brussels Public School graduations.
She was a lovely lady who loved
to enjoy life, until health issues
confined her to her home at
Huronlea. Our condolences to the
Huether and Webster families.
Our sympathies are extended to
the family of Max Watts on his
passing. He will be missed by his
Zwep surprised with family Brooklyn trip
There was a little bit of everything
this week as far as weather is
concerned; hot, cool, sunny,
overcast, rain. Thankfully no hail or
snow!
The first week of summer holidays
is over and I had the opportunity to
speak to a few young people. They
have spent time at grandma's house
and others have been away to
waterparks. Others are at swimming
lessons and some report doing
nothing. There are another eight
weeks to find something exciting to
do for a holiday!
I learned about a Father's Day
surprise this past week for George
Zwep. Children Danica and Randy
surprised their father with a trip to
Brooklyn, Michigan to see a
NASCAR race. He had always
wanted to see a race and says it was
great. The group was amazed at how
fast the cars went — up to 200 miles
per hour. They had a fantastic day
together and hope to do it again
sometime.
Congratulations to Andy and
Darlene VanderVeen on becoming
grandparents again. Their daughter
Nikki and husband Robert Wynja
have welcomed a beautiful baby girl,
Danielle Francis to their family.
Congrats to everyone.
Graeme and Helen Craig were the
hosts for the Elliott family reunion
weekend this year. They hosted the
event at the cottage of Dave and
Shannon Soontiens in Bayfield.
There were about 30 people
attending from parts of Ontario
including Haliburton, Port Sydney,
Mount Pleasant, Tavistock and area.
Sister Mary Elliott from Burnaby,
British Columbia is here for her
usual month-long holiday and to
attend the reunion. Sister Emily
from Haliburton and brother Robert
from Kitchener complete the family.
The hosts provide much of the
main meal foods and everyone
contributes to the rest. The younger
people had a great time tubing at
the lake because the waves were
just perfect! One nephew was unable
to attend because of the vicious
storm that hit the Minden area on
Friday.
Congratulations to Mike and
Nicole Noble on the birth of a sweet
little girl. They have welcomed
Kendry to their family and big
brothers Beckett and Jacoby are
thrilled. Proud grandparents are
Ruth and Murray Lowe and of
course Uncle John Lowe will be
there to spoil her.
Celebrating birthdays this past
week are Dianne Blake, Lorne
Glanville, Brad Knight, Jim Brown,
Emily Mitchell, Sean Mitchell,
Jasmin Roth, Russel Pryce, Steve
Fritz, Mitchell Ryan, Lorna Fraser,
Neil Mitchell, Melanie Kirkby,
Emma Johnson and Jackson
Janmaat. Happy birthday to all!
wife Barb and children Stephanie,
Maxine, David, Trina, Darren and
Ruth Ann and their families. Max
came to Brussels and purchased the
D.A. Rann Furniture and Funeral
Home in 1969. He operated the
House of Max Furniture for a few
years until its closing and he
concentrated on the funeral home
business until 1988. The couple
moved to Wasaga Beach and
continued in the funeral business
until their retirement and returned to
Brussels about five years ago. Our
condolences to the family.
Our sympathies are extended to
Marlene Little and the Mason family
on the passing of her sister Beverly
Mason German. She will be missed
by her children Patrick and Jennifer
and their families and her mother
Irma Mason of Blyth.
The Walton Hall Board was busy
on the weekend catering to the
wedding meal for Matt and
Meaghan Ryan. The group of ladies
included Jo -Ann McDonald, Judy
Lee, Judy Emmrich, Barb Durrell
from the Board and helpers Jane
Zwep, Heidi McClure, Patti Banks,
Rick McDonald and Chris Lee.
Students helping with tables
included Claire Mitchell, Lily
Grobbink and Katrina, Courtney and
Simon Gubelmann. It's a great job
by all to help support the upkeep of
the Walton Community Hall.

Bob's adventure
Barber Bob (O'Brien) of Seaforth, centre, and his family rented a bus for a day last month and
gathered family, friends and relatives to celebrate his 80th birthday. The day began in Seaforth
and travelled back in time to his prime to the country roads of Aylmer. The bus toured back to
his roots and touched on all the places he resided while growing up and different milestones
in his life. Following the tour the family was joined by many more wellwishers at the Aylmer
Legion to share cake, refreshments and social time. The group then boarded the bus to depart
back to Seaforth for dinner. It was a day filled with lots of laughs and special memories shared
between wonderful family and friends. (Photo submitted)
