Madill speakers urge graduates not to fear mistakes
Representing their school
As F.E. Madill School Grade 8 students celebrated their graduation, moving on from public
school to high school, these three young women were selected to represent the classes and
speak at the special ceremony. For their time on the stage, they urged their fellow graduating
students to not be afraid to make mistakes. From left: Julia Wright, Mackenzie Finch and

Albert Einstein once said "A
person who never made a mistake
never tried anything new." This is
some advice that we think many
Grade 8 students can use in their
future, especially next year, heading
into high school.
Many Grade 8 students are
nervous about high school — nervous
that they are going to mess up or
make a mistake. But who says a
mistake is a bad thing? What if the
time you say the wrong thing to a
friend of yours, is actually what
leads you to meet a new friend, that
will stick by you no matter what?
What if the time you fail at a
technique in art class, actually leads
to you discovering how good you are
at music?
If we never made a mistake, we
would never be able to grow and
change and we would never be able
to better ourselves. So, stop
worrying about the mistakes we
have all made up until now. Mistakes
are evidence that you tried. They
changed us and we are better people
for it.
Speaking of trying new things,
F.E. Madill offers a variety of new
things to get involved in like sport
teams and clubs. The Grade 8
students appreciated the ability to do
what they loved here at Madill.
There were lots of things for
everyone in Grade 8 to do, like track
and field and cross-country. We have
plenty of sports teams such as
basketball, volleyball and soccer. At
Madill our Grade 8 students joined
lots of clubs this year, such as
robotics, band, drama and student
council.
Throughout the year, the Grade 8
students had exciting events for
instance, m -factor, colour run, spirit
days and dances.
This year our Grade 8 classes took
a trip to Celtic, and we all had so
much fun and came together as a
family. There were many
opportunities for Grade 8 students,
especially getting the iPads. We had
an enjoyable time taking trips
together, tubing, bowling and going
to the movies. We loved the things
that were offered here at Madill this
year, we can't wait for next year as
we move into high school and join
more.
With so many different clubs and
sports, the students of 2016-2017
