Members painted scenes for the photo booths at the IPM. The scenes include a tractor, plow and a 4-H logo and a chicken, cow, pig and turkey. (Photo submitted) By John Ryan The third meeting of the 4-H International Plowing Match (IPM) County Plowers was held at the Clinton Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) office on June 14 at 7 p.m. Members went outside to play a game before the meeting started. When finished, they went inside and did the pledge and roll call. Next the members painted their tiles and mystery boxes for the IPM tent. They started to paint a scene for the photo booths. One scene had a tractor, plow and a 4-H logo, the other a chicken, a cow, a pig and a turkey. They also cut egg cartons for hand-outs at the IPM 2017, where visitors to the tent will be able to put some dirt in the egg carton and plant a seed to take home. This is all possible because of 4-H Connecting Canadians Fund sponsored by Canada 150, The Government of Canada, TransCanada and McDonald's Canada. The club ended the meeting with the motto and then had chips and juice for snack. Countdown to school year begins PEOPLE AROUND WALTON By Jo -Ann McDonald Call 887-6570 Teachers, bus drivers and maybe parents are all breathing a sigh of relief that another school year has passed. Time to relax, sleep in, catch up with other jobs, go on vacation and start new projects. The list is endless. So enjoy your time because it is only 63 days and another school year begins! Happy Canada Day to all! We hope you had a great day how ever you celebrated. We went to the Seaforth firefighters' breakfast and they had a fantastic crowd and a great breakfast. Others went camping for their way of celebrating although it was maybe a little damp at times and not as much fun they find ways to have a good time. Many attended the Atwood Day of celebrations and saw the parade and barbecue. Others celebrated at Belgrave for the 150th of East Wawanosh anniversary. There was golf, slo-pitch, a parade, school reunion, barbecue, breakfast and church. Lots of activities to fill the day. Our sympathies are extended to Kathy Nichol and her family on the passing of her father Leo MacNeil. Leo had been a resident of Brussels for a few years and will also be missed by his sons Kevin and J.D. and their families. Our condolences to all. Our sympathies are extended to the Machan family on the passing of a brother in law. Wayne Becker passed away just prior to a planned 50th wedding anniversary celebration last weekend. He was the husband of Darlene and father of Connie and Tamara. Our condolences to the Becker family and the Machan family. Our sympathies are extended to the family of Klaas Jorritsma, a resident of Huronlea. He will be missed by his children Tineke, Annette and Klaas and their families Our condolences to all. Yikes, as I am writing, it is raining yet again. Another inch of rain was dumped on the area during the early week and now it is raining again. Not great for those camping this weekend. Rainy days are causing a lot of concern for farmers hoping to cut hay but at least the long-range forecast has showed a good week ahead. Let's hope! Returning from a five-day Hanover Holiday Bus Tour to New York City were Keith and Gloria Wilbee. The tour guide, Barbara, was excellent, as was the bus driver Paul, who had to navigate bumper - to -bumper traffic as they arrived in the city during the Pride parade. They stayed at the Wellington Hotel in Manhattan that was walking distance to Central Park West and Times Square. They went to the top of "The Rock" or Rockefeller Center, which included fantastic views of the city and Central Park, which is enormous -800 acres. They also saw the west side of Central Park and the John Lennon memorial. It is across the street from his apartment, in which his wife Yoko Ono still resides. They also went to the 9/11 memorial and museum. Two enormous waterfall fountains mark the spots of the original buildings. The names of those who perished are carved in stone all around the fountains. A pear tree recovered from the rubble at the World Trade Center site in October 2001, was later called the "survivor tree". The tree was badly burned and had only one living branch. The "Survivor Tree" has become a symbol of hope and rebirth. Gloria reports that the people who work at the memorial and surrounding area are very emotional even today when they speak about the site. They do not want it to be called "Ground Zero," because they feel those words represent the destruction. They now focus on healing, the future and the rebirth of their city. Gloria reports they did a lot of walking and as a group they walked some of the Brooklyn Bridge. That night they took a ferry to see the night lights of New York City on the Hudson River and then a yellow taxi ride back to the hotel. They went to Battery Park to catch the ferry to see the Statue of Liberty monument and then to Ellis Island and Museum. They were not able to spend near enough time at the museum, as there is so much history to see in the building. Gloria reports that she and Keith enjoyed sitting at the window of the hotel restaurant just watching the people! Keith and Gloria and another couple went to the Broadway musical Beautiful — The Carol King Story on their last night away. They report having a great time and meeting some very nice new friends. Congratulations to Cody Rapson and Katie Richmond as they were married on Canada Day at their home on Cranbrook Road. The wedding and reception was held in the beautiful tent erected in the backyard of the property. Congratulations to the newlyweds! The deadline has passed for the International Plowing Match beautification and barn quilt competition. Take time to tour the countryside and see the many improvements on properties and the many barn quilts that have gone up in the area. There are only 74 days until the big show is in Huron County. Time to spruce up, volunteer if you haven't and make Huron County proud. Celebrating birthdays to end the month of June is Ken McCallum, Sandy Terpstra, Jenn Rea Thompson, Kevin Huether and Caden Lee. Canada babies include Linkin McCallum, Julie Wharton, Colton VanDriel and Jim Bosman. Dianne Baan, Sherri McLachlan, Craig Baan, Merton Hackwell, Jeffrey Linton, Ken Pethick, Michael Ryan, Hope Williamson, Allison Stevenson and Ralph Bos celebrated this past week. They have with them international investors and blueprints for a "Native Theme Park." What ensues is a hilarious, laugh -a -minute riot, as some members of the community try to shut down the development, while others leap in with both feet. Full of absurd gags and indelible, larger -than - life characters, The Berlin Blues is a slap down, drag 'ens out cultural appropriation comedy of the highest (and lowest) order. 2015-2017 Season Sponsors Parkland * sparlings FUEL CORPORATION ww vow.00wr>® Season Media Sponsor Media Sponsor pep -Rural Blyth Festival gratefully acknowledges the support of Ca.
