We've had another good week of
weather with some hot humid days.
Hay was being cut and machinery
washed up. I did see some white
beans being planted, but I think most
farmers in our area are finished. We
had a nice touch of rain and then
Saturday evening all heck broke
loose. Tremendous rainfall came
down in a hurry and some strong
winds came, but lasted only a short
time. The amount of rainfall
certainly varies across the area from
just over an inch to upwards of three
inches. The ground certainly has
moisture now!
We are getting down to the nitty
gritty with only six days left of
school from today. Kids are so
excited about the fun days they are
having at school including picnics
and swimming and play days! I am
not sure all parents are as excited
about summer beginning but
everyone has different challenges
for the summer. Daycare or
babysitters or grandmas and
grandpas, summer camps —
somebody has to be watching the
kids!
Welcome back to Murray, Ruth
and John Lowe from their trip to the
east coast. They took the train from
Toronto to Montreal and then to
Monkton and Murray reports it was
great. They rented a car and they
were off! They went to many sites in
New Brunswick, Prince Edward
Island and Nova Scotia. They toured
down the Cabot Trail and were
amazed at the beauty of the
countryside. The villages with their
brightly coloured homes and the
cleanliness of the land impressed
them all.
I have forgotten where Murray
said that they were, but while the trio
was waiting for something, they
could see a crane, high in the air.
They headed that way and asked the
ground foreman if the crane operator
was named Bump. He replied, "No,
Brad is running the crane" It was the
one and the same Brad "Bump"
Beuerman. John sent a text to Brad
and he sent back one of a panoramic
view of the area for them. Murray
and Ruth didn't have a chance to see
Brad and I am not sure if John did or
not.
The group enjoyed a meal at the
famous Fisherman's Wharf
restaurant and Murray was amazed
at the 60 -foot salad bar! The trio
flew home after driving 2,115
kilometres and nine days away and a
memorable family trip. Welcome
back to your home community!
Welcome back to Ken and Val
Pethick who spent a week in British
Columbia. They went out to surprise
Val's Aunt Marg for her 75th
birthday. They went to Abbottsford
for the celebration and surprise on
her birthday. She was overwhelmed

when she answered the door and
found the Pethicks. They had a good
week with warm weather but only a
little sun. Welcome back folks!
We wish Greg Wilson get well
wishes after having a shoulder
replacement. We hope he comes
along quickly from the surgery and
the following rehab he will go
through.
It was nice to see Gary and Wendy
Martin home. Wendy has been here
in Canada for a month and will be
here awhile longer from her home in
Laos. Gary is here for a week from
his home in Eagle River, Alaska. He
and his family had been visiting his
wife's family in Virginia and he
came here while they returned to
Alaska. Gary and Wendy have been
helping Alice get cleaned up and
ready for the shed/garage yard sale
they held on the weekend.
There was a great crowd and a
great job for the Brussels
Firefighters' breakfast on Sunday.
Way to go firefighters!
There was also a nice gathering of
people for the raising of the
windmill at the Four Winds Barn
project on Sunday afternoon. Did
you see the Hercules fly over
Brussels last week? I didn't but Deb
Cann did and took some pictures of
the flyby.
We are pleased to hear George and
Shirley Wheeler have moved from
Braemar to Huronlea. They will
enjoy seeing old friends and being
close to their siblings in town.
Celebrating birthdays this past
week included Hiliary Bachert,
Dallas Young, Tanner Boven, Shawn
Reinink, Colleen Collins, Paul
Linton, Dawson Dunbar, Margaret
Mclnroy, Adam McClure, Sue
Hannon and Tyson McGavin. Happy
birthday to all.
