committee and the Brussels Tigers
fastball club, the event will feature
nine games throughout the day, a
beverage tent and barbecue hot dogs
and hamburgers for both lunch (11

Grand re -opening
The Brussels Optimist Club held a special open house at its clubhouse on Saturday to help
mark improvements to the location. The day included tours of the renovated building and a
barbecue, which was expertly carried out by Optimists Cole McLean, left, and Vern Logan, a
past -president of the club. (Quinn Talbot photo)
At the Branch
Cadets reviewed,
prepare for break
By Jo -Ann McDonald
Congratulations to four Comrades
of the Brussels Legion Branch who
participated in provincial darts on
the weekend. Comrades Ron and
Daisy Schmidt and Jay and Carol
Colgate were in Sutton for the
competition. They had a great day,
but finished fourth in their card, so
did not advance to the playoff round.
Congratulations to the four for
representing Branch 218 so well.
The week started at the Branch
with the Cadet Corp 2967 hosting its
final inspection evening. They
paraded, demonstrated different
aspects of training areas, received
awards and were inspected by
former Captain of the Corp, Captain
John Grobbo. There were 29 Cadets
on parade, six instructors, four
guests and approximately 50 parents
and family members in attendance.
The rain came along to shorten the
event and a social time was held
indoors. The Corp has one more
night to enjoy a year-end barbecue
and then are on break until
September. Many of the Cadets
attend camp during the summer and
look forward to returning to the
Corp in the fall.
President Jamie Mitchell has been
working hard to get the Branch
ready for Canada Day and the
International Plowing Match in
September. He has been busy
cleaning up the flowerbeds,
trimming the trees, fixing the
eavestrough, removing the old
cooler and picking up the new
one with help from the Ross
family and the strong young
men and friends.
