If you don't know Phillips leads service during conference Greeting worshippers at Blyth United Church on Sunday, May 28 were Donna Moore and Marilyn Craig. Ushering were Rob Mason and John Stewart. Marilyn Scott was organist, Katie Dockstader, choir director and Fred Hakkers ran the Power Point. Emily Phillips welcomed everyone to church reminding the congregation that it was Conference Sunday, meaning all the ministers in the conference are in London for their meeting. Because all the ministers are at conference they prepared the message and sent out to all the United Churches for someone to present. Emily drew attention to the announcements printed in the Bulletin. Special attention that next Sunday will be the last Sunday before summer break for the Sunday Fun Group. They are celebrating their year ending by preparing lunch for after the Service and invited everyone to stay and have lunch Emily lit the Christ candle on the alter table. The call to worship was said responsively. The first hymn was "Open My Eyes That I May See". The opening prayer was said in unison followed by the singing of the Lord's Prayer. The children were asked to come to the front. Emily told the children that it is hard to be nice to everybody all the time. Sometimes we forget to say "thank you". Sometimes we do things that hurt people and make them sad. Emily handed a child a basket full of little stones and asked him to pass the basket around and give everyone a little stone. After everyone had their stone she asked if the basket was a little lighter and the answer was "yes". We can make someone feel better by saying we are sorry, by giving them a hug and by saying "thank you" She told the children and the congregation to keep the stone in our pocket and every time we see it, it will remind us to be thoughtful of others. Emily said a prayer with the children and the congregation. The children went into their room for their time of fellowship. The next hymn was, "Teach Me God to Wonder". The scripture reading was from Habakkuk 1:1-4 and 2:1-3 and the Gospel reading was from Luke 15: 11-24. The choir sang the anthem, "Follow Me". In the scriptures, Jesus is often found sitting in a crowd of people, talking to them and telling stories. In The first ever While this will be a very big season of firsts for the Blyth Festival, with some actors being the first to walk across the newly renovated stage and plays being the first to christen the new theatre after the $4 million renovations that occurred at the site, the very first first was the first new art show at the Blyth Festival Art Gallery. On Thursday, May 25, the Student Art Show of Huron and Perth high schools opened in the recently -renovated gallery. (Denny Scott photo) the scriptures it was the story of the prodigal son. The story of two sons receiving their inheritance. The story was about the younger son running away and squandering his money and then returning home. The father was glad to see him and prepared a feast in his honour. We are a family of faith. We have to reconcile our ways and have faith to move forward. We can work together with God's help for the bigger picture. The next hymn, "Just As I Am" was followed by the offering, the offertory response, the offertory prayer, the prayers for the people singing of the hymn response, "Deep in Our Hearts". The Last hymn, "We are Pilgrims" was followed by the benediction and the singing of the response, "I am Walking a Path of Peace" Everyone was invited for snacks, coffee, tea and fellowship. (Arthur Pink) Instead of a river, God often gives us a brook --which may be running today, and dried up tomorrow. Why? To teach us not to rest in our blessings --but in the blesser Himself.
