UCW to host theatre trip to Blyth's 'The Berlin Blues' PEOPLE AROUND LONDESBORO By BRENDA RADFORD Call 523-4296 "Help Can Come in Many Guises" was the theme of the devotional time at the May gathering of the Londesborough UCW on Monday, May 15. Laura Scott read Luke 10:25 to 37 which is the story of the Good Samaritan. Then Laura, Harriett Shillinglaw and Brenda Radford did a little skit on that theme. A discussion by the ladies present that evening followed about times in their lives when a 'good samaritan' helped them out. Harriett ended this part of the evening with a reading that reminded the ladies to always look below the surface of a person before making a judgement. President Helen Lobb conducted the business. Families of the congregation will be reminded that the UCW are willing to assist with the cost of sending a child from our church to a faith based summer camp. Sunday, May 28 is Conference Sunday and in Terry's absence the UCW will be leading the morning service. The service will be a celebration of 55 years of UCW in the United Church of Canada. And they're off! Hullett Central Public School held its track and field competition on May 18. From left, running the 400 -metre race, are Ty Hoggart, Braden Hummel and Kaleb Johnson. (DennyScottphoto) Waterfront trail considers Huron expansion plan By Shawn Loughlin The Citizen The Great Lakes Waterfront Trail is looking to expand into Huron County and that process will involve two open houses, one of which will be in Blyth. Marlaine Koehler, executive director of the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail, was in Goderich to speak to Huron County Council at its May 17 committee of the whole meeting. She discussed the expansion of the trail into Huron County and what that potential route would look like. While the trail is focused on Lake Huron, there are a number of areas where the Huron County portion of the trail would move inland to quieter, more cycling -friendly roads, mostly between Bayfield and Amberley. Highway 21, however, will be the main vein for the trail. In partnership with the Waterfront Regeneration Trust, the county will be hosting two open houses in order to consult with members of the public on preferred cycling routes throughout the county. The proposed trail route is far from written in stone and organizers want input from the public. The first open house will be held on Wednesday, May 31 at the Blyth and District Community Centre from 5-8 p.m. There is a scheduled presentation on the proposed trail that night at 5:15 p.m. The second meeting will be at the Continued on page 7 This year's theatre outing will be on July 6 to Blyth to see The Berlin Blues. Supper will be at the Blyth Inn. Contact Joan Goodall for a ticket. The June 19 meeting will begin with a turkey supper for members at 6:30 p.m. Monies from the meal will be matched from UCW funds and given to Barb Knox that evening for the new camp washroom fund. Barb will bring an update on things at the camp. *** Bert Lyon is home again from hospital having spent a few days there last week with pneumonia.
