(Photo submitted) M -T council, staff to work IPM By Denny Scott The Citizen Morris-Turnberry Council decided that senior staff and council members will take turns in the municipality's booth at the International Plowing Match (IPM) in Walton. The match will be the 100th IPM and will be in Huron East, just south of the border between Morris- Turnberry and Huron East. Council members were encouraged to sign up for time slots alongside senior staff. Councillor Jim Nelemans said he wanted this to be a volunteer opportunity for council, and not have them receive pay or per diem At the Branch funding for the day. Council agreed. *** Morris-Turnberry will hold a single council meeting for the month of August. The move, designed to give council and staff some time to enjoy the summer weather, will see council meet on Aug. 1 and then not again until Sept. 4. Council approved the change during its May 16 meeting. Council also decided to move its second meeting in September from Sept. 18 to Sept. 26 as not to clash with preparations for the International Plowing Match near Walton. Morris-Turnberry Council Fish fries make for busy week for crew By Jo -Ann McDonald It has been a very quiet week around the Brussels Legion Branch. The Legion year is winding down and concludes at the end of May. The new executive takes charge as of the first of June with some new faces among the old. Comrade Jamie Mitchell is the new president and we wish him well in his new role. The executive will be installed during the general meeting this week. After a busy week or two of being busy with fish fry dinners, the Branch Comrades are enjoying a break. It will be short-lived with the next round of three fish fry dinners during a week. Comrades wishing to help out at a fish fry can call the Branch to volunteer. Anyone interested in booking a fish fry can call the Branch for the information. The tickets for the Canada draw are going well and are available from many Branch members. Mayor Paul Gowing said it was a common sense decision as some living situations would never require pumping. "One person living in a home wouldn't create a need for maintenance," he said. "The system would generate on its own" *** Moms-Turnberry staff members are doing some homework to determine what the rental fee for the Bluevale Hall will be for the Bluevale Hall Committee to run the site once the committee is founded. While some prices were discussed, Councillor Dorothy Kelly suggested that staff determine what the townships saves by having the group handle the issue and make the decision based on that. Councillor John Smuck, council's representative on the board, agreed. The information will be brought forward at a future council meeting. There was freshness all around, new growth in every glance and sunshine. If picking a favourite month, May would have to be a contender, for many and varying reasons. Pick your own top three as you celebrate the weather. The long weekend is here, another reason to celebrate May. But to get the paper to you on schedule, the work gets done on Friday, not the usual Monday. So wracking my brain to think about what has happened twice in a week is not good. Opening Market Day was Friday and the board was pleased as they reviewed applications in advance of opening - it looked like 20 spots would be filled with enthusiastic vendors, ready to offer you their products. I certainly hope you attended. Have you checked the available plays at Blyth Festival? It's time to get your tickets for your first picks now. I'm always pleased when family from out of town tell us they have tickets for a specific play and wonder if we have ours. That's good advertising. Our back view is the rear end of the arena. So to sit and have your tea and view two soccer games in progress, as well as a baseball game on the sports fields there, is very nice. So many lessons to be learned from sports. I am not an office person and when papers from three separate areas of my life all land at once, screaming is pretty close. Minute details that are important to some, are irritating to me when the reason for the need escapes me. I guess it's a reminder we're all different with different needs and expectations. For a "get'er done" person to deal with fine details, reason and time soon escape me. There I feel better and will have no contact with details or papers this week. Yes I'm a dreamer too. There are lots of fun things to do here, so make the effort and see the art, museums, games, concerts and plays in our areas, you'll be pleased. Bye now, Betty G.W.
