Mark Royall Huron Chapel Evangelical Missionary Church, Auburn Any time in the Gospels when Jesus got into the disciples' boat, something BIG was about to happen. The disciples learned who Jesus was and who they were. They came to worship Him as they never had before. They also learned to trust Him at His Word. Many of the disciples were fishermen, so the boat represented the routine of life as they set off to work in their boat each day. The boat represented security for when they were out on the lake, they had a good measure of safety and familiarity in their boat. Once, Jesus got into the boat with His disciples and fell asleep as they ventured out onto the lake. Suddenly a life-threatening storm came up. The disciples were frightened for their lives, so they woke Jesus up who simply stood up and calmed the monsoon. The disciples learned something new about Jesus that day. They said, "Even the winds and waves obey Him!" (Matthew 8:27) Then there was that time when Jesus came walking out on the water to their boat during another storm. Jesus spoke to Peter to step out of the boat, his familiar place of security, and to walk with Him on water. When Jesus and Peter got back into the boat we read, "Then the disciples worshipped Him. "You really are the Son of God!" they exclaimed" (Matthew 14:33). Then there was the time when Jesus got in the boat with Peter who asked him to let down his nets after having fished all night and caught nothing. Peter had every right to ignore Jesus. Peter was a fisherman, Jesus was a carpenter... what did He know about fishing? Peter was tired after being up all night and yet he says to Jesus, "But if you say so, I'll let the nets down again." We read that through Peter's act of trust and obedience the nets became so full of fish they had to call help from other boats to get all the fish to the shore. Do you remember Peter's reaction to Jesus when this all ort stwal ect ) Share your news by placing your announcement in The Citizen Call for pricing & details 519-523-4792 46 or 519-887-9114 L Votter Clinatian Telly ip MOTHER'S DAY May 14: 1Sam. 1:24ff /- .J r 'c"."-illli i Uf PPS pom RS Dor. We read, "When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, "Oh, Lord, please leave me— I'm such a sinful man." Luke 5:8 When Jesus was in his boat and understood that He was indeed the holy Son of God, Peter became convicted of his own personal sin. You see, it isn't until we see who Jesus really is that we see who we really are. It was an experience that put Peter on his knees. When was the last time Jesus stepped into your boat and the experience put you on your knees? Living out the Christian life today is not without its difficulties and challenges. There will be times when Jesus will step into your boat and convict you of sin like He did with Peter. He will do this, not to demean and belittle you, but to help you overcome so that you may be more. You see, our sin holds us back from knowing and experiencing all God has for us. There may be times when Jesus comes and asks you to step out in faith and walk on water with Him during a storm in your life. There will be times when Jesus asks you to trust Him and let down your nets when it makes no sense to you at all. There will be times when Jesus will challenge the secure and familiar areas of your life so that you may come to trust Him alone. There will be times when He will want to refine you to grow you... and you will want to complain and resist it. Going through difficult and challenging situations in our Christian walk are a reality of our Christian faith. Sometimes we just focus on these areas and we forget just how great it is to follow Jesus Christ. We can dwell on the challenges only to forget the flip side and remember how incredibly amazing it is to live the Christian . We are so blessed that Jesus, God Himself, wants to get into our boat so that something great can happened that will forever change our life. When the Christian life becomes challenging, when you find it difficult and want to lament all the refining and growing, ask yourself this question "What life would I rather be living?" What life, other than the life where Jesus is in control and has all authority, would I rather be living? What's the other option? To live a life without God, and thus without real hope, without a powerful purpose, without the peace only Jesus can bring during times of storm? Honestly... it is pretty awesome to be a Christian. It is amazing to think how you and I can have a relationship with God Himself. That God Himself will step into our boat to teach us, love us, direct us, and help us all so that we may become and know more in our life than what we can be and know on our own. `ou re c9nvited a join ?is 9n Worship SUNDAY, MAY 14 Morning Service No evening service 10:00 am BLYTH CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH • " ya = Minister: Pastor Gary van Leeuwen Hwy. 4, Blyth www.blythcrc.ca 519-523-4743 Fftuaeeed eaxsr2ttu'fiy 'i&e You're 7nvitedT to come worsht p with us Sunday, May 14 Brussels Business & Cultural Centre at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Sunday School for children 4 to 12 years of age at 9:30 a.m. Childcare provided for infants and preschoolers during the sermon.
