Weather puts a damper on village -wide yard sale
How could you not love the Lions
Club breakfast in Auburn? You hand
them $10 and they hand you lots of
change back and in return you get
eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast and
of course, pancakes hot of the grill.
And if this wasn't enough, they
supply you with real maple syrup.
And there is still more because there
is always some good Auburn
neighbours to chat with as you eat.
Last Saturday was the annual
Auburn village -wide yard sale,
which I began with the Lions Club
breakfast at the Auburn Memorial
Hall. The weather resembled a late
November day but I headed out into
the streets early before a meeting I
had at the church to see what wares
were available this year.
However, I found the weather had
caused people to be a little shy about
coming out early. I think like the

Feeding the help
The Auburn Lions put on a great breakfast but, at the end of it all, even the most stalwart
volunteers need to find time to feed themselves. Shown above are the volunteers sitting down
to break bread as part of the Auburn Lions Breakfast on Saturday, the Day of Service for Lions
Clubs through the area. (Mark Royal/ photo)
4-H bread
group holds
first meeting
By Emily Bieman
The first meeting of the
Wawanosh 4-H Breadventure Club
was called to order on Tuesday, May
2 at 7 p.m. at leader Mary Ellen
Foran's house. As members arrived,
they were given a main ingredient
found in bread. They had to ask yes -
or -no questions and try to figure out
what the ingredient was.
When all members discovered
what their ingredient was, the
meeting was opened with the 4-H
Pledge. The club expectations were
discussed. Elections were then held.
Results are as follows: President,
Grace Hallahan; Vice -President,
Loretta Higgins, Press Reporter,
Emily Bieman; Attendance
Recorder, Megan Todd; Cover
Designer, Lauren Todd and
secretaries will rotate.
Members then read about the
basic ingredients in bread. Next,
members looked at nutrition labels
on bread packages. Leader Cathy
Drennan explained to members how
to measure ingredients. Members
split into groups and made
cinnamon buns and croissant rolls.
Groups were given two skits from
their book to present to other
members.
Afterwards, members were shown
how to knead bread. Members then
enjoyed the cinnamon buns and
croissant rolls that they made earlier
in the meeting. The next meeting
will be held on Saturday May 13, 3-
6 p.m. at the Auburn Hall.
walked outside and couldn't see
their shadow so they rushed back
into their homes. I did find the
faithful United Church ladies
huddled inside the church's foyer
trying to avoid the elements.
Usually I find them outside on the
sidewalk in the sunshine and
apologizing because all the pies had
already been sold. However, this
year I had a choice of pies. Perhaps
a bright spot on a cloudy cool
morning. I grabbed a rhubarb
custard to give to a friend.
Normally when you drive around
the streets on this morning you are
carefully trying avoid the crowds of
people walking from place to place
but this year we had a slow start.
However, I was told that later that
morning, when I was in my meeting,
the crowds picked up and some
serious shopping was being done in
the Auburn streets.
Later that same evening, Tim and
Glory Boys rolled into town for their
concert at Huron Chapel. Earlier
this year they won the Juno for
Gospel album of the year and were
ready to give it all in their second
last show before heading off to do a
tour in Australia and Singapore.
The band did not disappoint the
full house as they entertained and
engaged the crowd with laughter and
some moving moments of worship.
One of the things I love about Tim
and The Glory Boys is you can bring
the whole family and all of them will
have fun and love the show. We had

children and youth and some of us
old folk clapping and singing along
throughout the performance.
The Glory Boys really like coming
to this area and when we said our
goodbyes, we shook hands, we
hugged and they promised to be
back again.
Make her day. Let us do it!
