Masons help celebrate Clark's departure
A fond farewell
As part of Rev. Gary Clark's penultimate service at Blyth
United Church, members of the Masonic Lodges from
across North Huron, including Blyth's Rick Elliott, were on
hand to mark the occasion. (Vicky Bremner photo)
Greeting worshippers at Blyth
United Church on Sunday, April 23
were Donna Moore and Marilyn
Craig. Ushering were Lissa
Kolkman, Emily Phillips and Nancy
Hakkers. Marilyn Scott was organist
and Katie Dockstader was choir
director and Fred Hakkers ran the
Power Point.
The members of Masonic Lodge
paraded into the sanctuary. Brother
Rick Elliott introduced some of the
Lodge members. The prayer of
approach was led by the District
Deputy Grandmaster.
Rev. Gary Clark invited Lilly
Fraser to come to the front and help
light the Christ candle and the others
on the altar table. The first hymn,
"Lord Prepare Me" was sung.
Rev. Clark invited everyone to
greet one another. The Choir sang
the Anthem "Lord, You Greet Us on
This Day."
The scripture reading was from
John 21:1-14. The story of Peter
going out to fish along with others
that went with him and the stranger
coming along and asking them had
they caught any fish. The answer
was no. The stranger (Jesus) told
them to try the other side of the boat.
Their nets became full of fish. The
children went downstairs with Mary
Ross for their time of fellowship.
The next hymn was "Jesus, You
Have Come to the Lakeshore."
Rev. Clark's message to the
congregation was "Fishing Tips".
While Rev. Clark was cleaning out
his office, he came across a
certificate of completion of a course
on disasters. Both the churches and
the Masonic Lodges are having
disasters — there are many churches
and lodges closing in the area. The
Lodge is much like the church.
There is an altar in the centre of the
room and there is a big "G" on the
ceiling above to remind us that God
is with us. Both churches and
Lodges are declining in
membership. We are often afraid of
what is just around the corner for
our churches and lodges.
In the scripture reading, the story
begins with sadness and the
Disciples were filled with grief.
They cannot go on without Jesus.
Peter tells them he is going fishing
as that was what he was trained for.
Jesus told Peter that He would make
him a fisher of men.
The lesson in the story is when we

I am in eternity --and you are on the brink!
(James Smith, "A Solemn Admonition" 1859)
Seek the Lord while He may be found.
Call upon Him while He is near. Isaiah 55:6
Passing through a country graveyard the other day, an inscription on a
head -stone struck my eye. The stone was by the side of the path, where
everyone could see it, and it was placed there in memory of a young man
who died at the age of seventeen. It was --
"Reader, one moment,
Stop, and think:
That I am in eternity!
And you are on the brink!"
In eternity! A young man, only seventeen years of age, in eternity!
In a fixed, a changeless, an eternal state!
In Heaven --or in Hell!
Saved with an everlasting salvation --or damned forever!
If it should be the latter --what a fearful supposition! And yet many have
gone to Hell --before they have been seventeen years of age!
"/ am in eternity --and you are on the brink!" Yes, though you may be
young, apparently healthy, full of life and vigor --you are on the brink of
eternity! A slight accident, or a few days illness --and you are in eternity!
What a solemn thought!
What will eternity be to you?
Where will you be in eternity?
Are your sins pardoned?
Are you reconciled to God by the death of His Son?
Are you sanctified by the Holy Spirit --and thus made fit for Heaven?
If not, remember that in Hell, there is...
no gospel,
no means of grace,
no way of escape from the wrath of God!
Once there --and your doom is fixed forever!
Think, 0 think...
Of the dreadful consequences of dying in your sins!
Of going down to the grave in an unconverted state!
Of dying under the curse of God!
"Behold, now is the accepted time!
Behold, now is the day of salvation!"
Reader! The above was written over 150 years ago.
All who then read this little piece --are now in eternity!
All who now read this little piece --are on the brink!
"Reader, one moment,
Stop, and think:
That I am in eternity!
And you are on the brink!"
