(Denny Scott photo) Mother's Day dessert orders open Greeting worshippers at Blyth United Church on Palm Sunday were Lavern Clark and Marilyn Craig. Ushering were Nancy Hakkers and Laurie Sparling. Floyd Herman was welcomed back as guest organist. Katie Dockstader was choir director and Fred Hakkers ran the Power Point. Lavern Clark welcomed everyone to church on Sunday morning. Lavern reminded the stewards of their meeting on April 18 at 7:30 pm. He also thanked those in charge of the renovations that have been done and those that will being completed in the next few months. He reminded the congregation that there is a sheet on the table in the narthex with a list of caterings and events happening in the church for the next few months. The last pie day until next fall is April 19. Lavern reminded the congregation the UCW are taking orders for the Mother's Day dessert sale. If you wish to order call Donna Moore at 519-253-9855 or Sharon Bromley at 519-523-9421. Lavern invited the congregation to greet one another. Brenda Brooks and Tanner Brooks lit the Lenten candles on the altar table. The prayer of approach was said in unison. The scripture reading was from Matthew 21: 1-11, the story of Jesus sending His disciples to find a donkey on which He rode when He entered the city of Jerusalem. The hymn "Hosanna Loud Hosanna," accompanied by the guitar group of Rev. Clark, Connor Brooks and Braidon Abell-Rinn, was sung as the children followed the donkey around Book Your Ad Now for the 2017 IPM Issue 35,000 copies in total Call The Citizen 519-523-4792 or contact sales representatives Brenda Nyveld & Heather Fraser e-mail: ads@northhuron.on.ca the sanctuary. The children (palm trees) along with Rev. Clark and Braidon Abell-Rinn presented the story of "Donkey! What's Up?" Rev. Clark (as Jesus) and Braidon (being the voice of the donkey) told the story of the donkey talking to Jesus and why the donkey was there. The donkey told Jesus he was afraid that he would never see Jesus again and Jesus told him that even though donkey could not see Jesus, Jesus is always with us. The children went downstairs for their time of fellowship. The anthem the choir sang was a medley of Easter hymns. The offering was received followed by the offertory response "Grant Us God the Grace," the offertory prayer, the prayers for the people and the singing of the Lord's Prayer. The last hymn "Put Your Hand in the Hand" accompanied by the guitar band was followed by the benediction and the singing of "0 Jesus I Have Promised." Everyone was then invited for coffee and treats to finish the day of fellowship. FROM BLYTH It will soften a stone! (Thomas Watson, "The Mischief of Sin") "The blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin!" 1 John 1:7 Christ's blood is a SOFTENING blood. There is nothing so hard, that it cannot be softened by this blood. It will soften a stone! Water will soften the earth — but it will not soften a stone; but Christ's blood mollifies a stone. It softens a heart of stone. It turns a flint into a spring The heart, which before was like a piece hewn out of a rock, being steeped in Christ's blood becomes soft, and the waters of repentance flow from it. "They will look on Me whom they have pierced and mourn for Him as for an only son. They will grieve bitterly for Him as for a firstborn son who has died." Zechariah 12:10 How was the jailer's heart dissolved and made tender when the blood of sprinkling was upon it! "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" Acts 16:30. His heart was now like melting wax. God might now set whatever seal and impression He desired, upon it. "I will give you a new heart with new and right desires, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony heart of sin and give you a new, obedient heart" Ezekiel 36:26 A Grace Gem Submitted by: Immanuel United Reformed Church, Listowel, ON 519-291-1956 THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, APRIL 13, 2017.
