(Denny Scott photo) M -T weighs in on septic program By Denny Scott The Citizen Morris-Turnberry Council, alongside other municipalities in Ontario, feel a mandatory septic pump -out and record program isn't necessary. The program, a proposed change to the Ontario Building Code, was decried by Corporation of the Township of Calvin and the United Townships of Head, Clara and Maria. Morris-Turnberry Council supported a motion passed by Calvin calling for the proposed change to be scrapped. Chief Building Official Kirk Livingston explained the program would involve significant expenditures. Council supported Calvin's motion to prevent the change to the building code. Morris-Turnberry Council opted for a powered display at the International Plowing Match later this year. Huron County is offering display space for lower -tier municipalities with the option of purchasing a "silo" for advertising purposes for $2,000 or powering their displays for $160. Council felt having electricity at the site was important, but didn't see the need for the silo. *** A Human Resources Committee meeting that turned out to not actually be a meeting led to heated debate during a recent Morris- Turnberry Council meeting. The meeting was about Morris- Turnberry Clerk -Administrator Treasurer Nancy Michie's annual review. The meeting was for information purposes and saw no action taken by the committee so the meeting was not advertised or classified as a proper meeting of the committee. Members of council who aren't on the committee felt the lack of internal advertising for the meeting was inappropriate. After some debate, council decided a revised report would be brought back from the meeting. Easter sunrise service set at local cemetery PEOPLE AROUND BELGRAVE By Linda Campbell Call 357-2188 Ron Taylor and Trudy Taylor greeted worshippers and handed out the service of worship at Knox United Church on Sunday, April 2. Minister Brian Hymers welcomed the congregation on Lent 5 and went over the announcements. There is an Easter Sunrise Service at Donnybrook Cemetery on April 16 at 7 a.m. and an Easter Sunday service at Belgrave at 11:15 a.m. On Sunday, April 2 Austin Bieman gave his speech at the Brussels Legion. The plants at the front of the sanctuary were placed by the Vincent families in loving memory of Edith and Shannon Vincent. The gathering prayer was read in unison followed by the opening hymn "This Day God Gives Me." The Gospel reading was from the Gospel according to John 11: 1-45 and was read by Doreen Marks, followed by the singing of the hymn, "I Danced in the Morning". Brian reflected on communion and how today's service was different than what we are used to. The Lord's Supper was served like the Methodist Church did over 100 years ago. He talked about tears. There are tears of sadness and joy. It is okay to cry just as Jesus wept. Funerals are a time when people cry quite openly. It is an emotional time. God understands all our pain and will always be there for us. Nancy Jardin reported on the Minute for Missions and focused on "Congregational Giving Program". Larry Harper and Doug Walker took up the offering. The communion hymn was "As We Gather at Your Table". Don Procter, Allen Walker, Roger Hopper, Lila Procter and Susan Jamieson shared the bread and wine with the congregation.
