PEOPLE AROUND
WALTON

The prediction of nasty weather
for a day last week was highly
overdone for our area and for that
we are glad! The temperatures are
gradually getting better and the sun
shining makes everyone feel better. I
would say March went out like a
lamb and now we can look forward
to getting outside and getting all that
spring work done. The lawns need
done, so get out the rake, flower
beds need attention, old plants out,
fertilizer added, new plants in and
the list goes on. Welcome spring!
Returning from a fabulous family
vacation are Paul and Janice Machan
and their sons Wyatt and Wade. They
wanted to have one great time
together before Wyatt goes to
college in the fall. They went to
Cayo Santa Maria, Cuba and were at
the Warwick Resort. They went on
the catamarans and saw dolphins and
then Janice and Wade went on an
excursion and went swimming with
the dolphins. They described the
adventure as amazing.
The boys also had the opportunity
to see how many people of the world
are not so fortunate. The low wages
the workers make in a week can be
compared to what we can make in an
hour or two. They enjoyed a great
week of weather, sun, food and
family fun.
We extend our sympathy to Viola
Adams Edgar on the passing of
Allan Edgar. He will be missed by
his family of William, Margaret,
Marilyn, Jeanette, Gord, Matthew,
Katharine and Mary Jane and by the
members of Viola's family. He was a
farmer living in town and loved to
travel to his farm most every day
until he was unable to do so. He has
been a resident of Huronlea for a few
years. Our condolences to the Edgar
and Adams families.
Spending the month of February
on the beautiful shores of Daytona
Beach were Don and Pat Dalton. The
weather was perfect, warm and
sunny most days. They spent their
time just lazing around, walking on
the beach and visiting and making
new friends at the condo. They had
unexpected visitors, when Don
answered the knock at the door
one day and found their son Gerrid
and Val and their four children
yelling "surprise". They spent the
week with them and the kids enjoyed
the pool and swimming in the
ocean.
Returning from a winter's stay in
Arizona are Murray and Sherry
McCall. They had a great time and
great weather. They spent time trail
riding with the side-by-side (four
wheeler) and met many great folks.
Welcome back to the McCalls.
Sherry McCall arrived home in
time to enjoy the release of the
International Plowing Match song
she has written. It features the
singing talent of Jack Storey,
Amanda McClure and Isaiah Sills
relating the story of the match,
farming, plowing and the celebration
of the 100th International Plowing
Match.
It is very well done, the video is
really good and we hope everyone
has a chance to hear it and see it very
soon. Congratulations to Sherry and
her crew of singers and supporters in
such a great job to promote the 2017
Plowing Match at Walton!
It seems to be vacation time for
many and two couples returning
from a trip south are Brad and
Christine Knight and Jim and Linda
McDonald. They spent a week in the
Dominican Republic and report
great weather, food and a wonderful
time.
We are sorry to hear that Glenn
Sellers has suffered a health issue
Getting ready
As part of a special International Plowing Match (IPM)
Beautification Committee event at the Regional Equine and
Agricultural Centre of Huron (REACH) in Clinton on Sunday,
volunteers made bows to decorate the county in preparation
for the match. From left are Shelley Kinsman, Taylor
Kinsman and Kate O'Leary-Swinkels. (Denny Scott photo)
and is now in Wingham Hospital. He
will be having some rehab and we
hope he comes along well.
Local folks spent a week in
Leticia, Columbia in March on a
mission trip. Seven of them made the
journey including Bill and Lydia
Rapson, Gerrid and Val Dalton,
Cathy Wammes, Phil Kuttain and Pat
Dalton.
The first Sunday away they
travelled down the Amazon River
with some of the children from
La Aljaba. The people of the
Amazon are very poverty stricken.
The Amazon is very wide, almost
like are northern lakes in Ontario.
They were able to see pink dolphins
swimming
The women were busy all week
painting the boys and girls dorms
and one of the classrooms at the
school. The men spent the week
preparing and putting up one of the
ceilings in one of the classrooms.
The new property at La Aljaba has
changed a lot since Pat was last there
two years ago. Progress is
happening, but very slowly.
They all spent time with the
children. Val had many activities
prepared for them ahead of time. The
children are all very happy there.
There were some new faces there,
but a lot of faces from the past. They
are so glad to see you come, but
many tears are shed when they have
to leave. The children each have
their sad story to tell as to why they
are at the children's home.
The group took all 80 children out
for pizza one night which was a real
treat for them. They were able to
purchase a trampolines for them and
it was exciting to see the children
jumping on it for the first time, as
most had never seen a trampoline
before! They purchased and left
many supplies for the children's
home before they left. They returned
home to Ontario (to a much cooler
climate) on March 27 after the 10 -
day excursion.
A family gathering was held at the
home of Richard and Marjorie Horst
for the western brothers Alex and Art
Glanville. A potluck supper was
enjoyed by the many members of the
Glanville family. Wishing the
brothers goodbye and a safe trip
home were Lloyd, Mabel and
Sharon Glanville, Pearl McCallum,
Joan McCallum, Marlene and Don,
Ilene, Les and members of the next
younger generation.
The brothers have now headed
back home to Saskatchewan and we
hope they have a safe drive.
Congratulations to Julie Jutzi, the
lucky winner of a fantastic prize Happy birthday to all.
from a draw in Seaforth. She has
won a car, a Ford Mustang, just in
time for her to enjoy this summer.
Congrats to Julie!
We have a few people under the
weather, in hospital or maybe out by
now, so we wish them all get -well
wishes. We hope Don Martin, Helen
Dobson and Valerie Gratto are
feeling better.
Celebrating birthdays to finish the
month of March are Connor den
Dekker, Nicole Williamson Murray,
John Baan, Brandi Leslie and Jack
McLachlan. April Fool's babies
include Matt Lee, Lily Fincham,
Pam Carter Cummings and Shirley
Clark. Celebrating the rest of the
first week of April includes Peter
Bennett, Ruthie Thamer Uyl, Susan
Watson, Corbin McCallum, Krista
Shortreed Verkey, Shirlee Bachert
Groothuis, Gary Bennett, Nate Fritz,
David Baan and Marlene Glanville.
