More than 180 local educators make `Sunshine List'

The Citizen
The Province of Ontario released
its public sector disclosure list,
commonly known as the "Sunshine
List" last Friday. The list details
those public employees who made
$100,000 or more in 2016.
With 123,410 people on the 2016
list, it has grown 6.9 per cent over
the 2015 list which included 115,432
employees.
Any organization that benefits
from public funding must disclose
the details for every individual who
makes $100,000 to be included on
the list.
As with previous years, Ontario
Power Generation's Chief Executive
Officer Jeffrey Lyash topped the list,
making $1,155,899 in 2016.
Locally the list contains hundreds
of individuals working in the
education sector, for municipalities
and police forces or healthcare
services.
The Avon -Maitland District
School Board has 146 staff members
making more than $100,000 led by
Director of Education Ted Doherty
making $199,356.30.
Local public school principals are
on the list including North Woods
Elementary School Principal Wendy
Armstrong -Gibson who made
$116,944.62, Maitland River
Elementary School Principal Angela
Cowley made $116,944.62, Hullett
Central Public School Principal
Cathy Goetz made $116,944.62.
Local public high school officials
on the list include Central Huron
Secondary School Principal George
McEwan ($125,128) and Vice -
Principal Helena Finch ($100,285)
and F.E. Madill Secondary School
Principal Debbie Green ($119,655)
and Vice -Principal Tracey Swart
($102,438).
The Huron -Perth Catholic District
School Board included 37
individuals making over $100,000
with an elementary school teacher,
Keri Wilkie, as the top earner with
$159,227 last year. Superintendent
of Education Dawne Boersen earned
$154,655 in 2016.
Locally, Jennifer Ritsma at St.
James Catholic School in Seaforth
was paid $115,719, Sharon
Stephens, principal at Sacred Heart
Catholic School in Wingham made

Secondary School Principal Karen
Tigani made $124,497.
Local health professionals on the
list from the Wingham and District
Hospital included registered nurse
Deborah Ritchie earning $134,720,
Vice -President of Clinical Services
and Chief Nurse Angela Stanley
($127,198.64), Chief Financial
Officer Tim Lewis ($120,540) and
two others.
Jennifer Blackhall and Pamela Van
Dyke, two nurse practitioners from
the Clinton Family Health Team,
were included on the list earning
$107,410 and $107,007 in 2016,
respectively.
Alexandra Marine and General
Hospital in Goderich had 10
individuals on the list including
President and Chief Executive
Officer Karen Davis earning
$198,435 and Chief Nursing
Executive and Vice -President of
Clinical Services Samantha Marsh,
who earned $116,825.
Thirty-six individuals employed
by The Huron Perth Healthcare
Alliance were on the list including
two Associate Pathologists, Barry
Sawka and Sharyn Smith, each
having made $307,194 and CEO and
President Andrew Williams who
earned $294.859.
The Township of North Huron had
seven staff members on the list
including Wingham Police Service
Sergeant Murray Foxton ($123,942)
and Chief Tim Poole ($115,100).
Chief Administrative Officer Sharon
Chambers ($121,153) and Director
of Corporate Services/Clerk Kathy
Adams ($101,113) also made the
list.
Other local municipal employees
included Ashfield -Colborne -Wawa -
nosh Administrator/Clerk-Treasurer
Mark Becker ($109,757), Huron
East Chief Administrative
Officer/Clerk-Administrator Brad
Knight ($118,119), Morris-
Turnberry Administrator/Clerk
Treasurer Nancy Michie ($125,889)
and Central Huron Chief
Administrative Officer/Deputy
Treasurer Steven Doherty
($105,169).
The Huron -Perth Children's Aid
Society had 13 individuals on the
list, with Executive Director Shaun
Jolliffee making $163,184.
Director of Services Maxine
McCaulay ($146,056) and Director
of Corporate Services Paul Castle
($134,973) also made the list.
Huron County released its own list
in February and had 30 individuals
on it including Medical Officer of
Health Jan Owen ($271,107) and
Huron County Chief Administrative
Officer Brenda Orchard ($175,701).
