Williamsons mark 50th anniversary with renewal Marking the special day To mark their 50th wedding anniversary, Anne and Ken Williamson renewed their vows with their original wedding party. (Vicky Bremner photo Ken and Anne Williamson marked their 50th anniversary over the weekend with a special celebration at the Brussels Royal Canadian Legion Branch. Ken, son of Herman and Evelyn Williamson of RR3, Walton, and Anne, daughter of George and Marie Blake of RR2, Brussels, were wed at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Brussels on March 27, 1967 by Father Mooney. The couple honeymooned in Niagara Falls before returning to RR3 Walton where both worked on their dairy farm. Ken eventually retired to a part- time position at Terpstra farm and both were self-employed at a rabbit farm. The couple had six children; Carolanne, wed to Charles Regele; the late Robert Williamson widower to Heather Williamson; the late John Williamson, widower to Heidi Williamson; Dianne Gregory of Lucknow, wed to Dennis; Cathy Boyle of Auburn, wed to Harry and Jeff Williamson of Blyth, wed to Becky. They were also blessed with 19 grandchildren. The celebration at the Legion featured the original wedding party including Ron Williamson, Gerry Williamson, Maryann Dannhaeuser (Phelan) and Rosemary Mathers (Blake). Gerald Blake and Elaine Little were unable to attend that day. The couple renewed their wedding vows in a service with Father K.P Morrison. Their children and grandchildren were also a part of the celebration. Ken and Anne were joined by their three daughters; Carolanne, Dianne and Cathy, and son Jeff with grandsons Donnie Williamson and Derrick standing in for Robert and John, respectively. Sunday evening music held at church A NOTE FROM BETTY By Betty Graber Watson Call 887-9231 The birds are back. My goodness, they are ready to sing, even as the At the Branch wind whips them about. It seemed there was no first robin sighting this year, then all of a sudden the trees were singing and the robin dances had begun. Yipeee! There are some days you just feel old. When it was announced in church this week that Neil and Joan Beuermann have been married 44 years it was a head -shaking moment. Holy cow, they too are aging. Congratulations to you two. You're looking good. When I recovered that these two had hit 44, that means the 5 players skunked during dart night By Jo -Ann McDonald The Thursday night dart league results were missed last week and an exciting week it was. It seems it was the night of skunks. Five players managed to get "skunked" by not earning any points before the other team doubled in, scored down from 501 and doubled out. Earning the third skunk of the year were Gord Jacklin and Deb Burch and the fourth skunk honours went to Jim Brown, Marlene Rutledge and Betty Ann Smith. The other darters having fun for the night and earning praise were Ron and Daisy Schmidt and Lawrence Machan placing first and Roger McHardy and Penny Reynolds placing second. The high shot of 140 was made by both a man and a woman. Ron Schmidt and Sheron Stadelmann each hit the 140. This week's results included the trio of first place winners, Wayne Smith, Sandra Josling and Lawrence Machan. The second -place team was Penny Reynolds and Marlene Rutledge. There were no shots over 100 made on this night. The Brussels Legion Branch was the venue for the celebration of 50 years of marriage for Ken and Anne Williamson. They held an open house on Sunday afternoon for family and friends. They renewed their vows with Father Morrison witnessed by members of the family and then returned to the Williamson home for a meal. Congratulations to the Williamsons. We are pleased to hear that Lloyd Glanville is home from hospital. We hope he is coming along well. We are still looking for new Comrades to become involved with the executive of the Branch. Please call the Branch or Comrade Deb Ross if you could serve as a member of the Branch's executive in a greater capacity. That number used to be saved for old people. Every time someone dies, we take stock of our own life. It's the time to see how life is adding up, where the person fit into your space, what they taught you and what you retained in the memory department. This week it's Rene Vercruyssen popping my thoughts. Rene was one of the guys that called Morris Township home and grew some very fine turnips and pigeons. A twinkle in his eye was warning that any subject was ready for discussion and in our case usually an argument. It was through wife Jenny (and son Danny) that I first got to know Rene and the great old red brick house that was filled with love. Son Ron was young then, and getting ready to take on life. Over the years our paths crossed with always a friendly chat and a twinkling of his eye. Good life Rene and may your good memories keep Jenny, Ron and the family smiling as the time goes by. Music is ready for you Sunday evening at the United Church. The area choirs are offering their talents as they sing us into spring. Donations to the Ministerial Compassion Fund will be accepted, so be there by 7:30 p.m. to enjoy some fine songs. Bye now, Betty G.W.
