Cinnamon Jim's event celebrates St. Patrick's Day
A NOTE FROM BETTY

The green of the Irish has stayed
and the grass is looking fine this
morning. Lots of fun things this past
week. Birthdays were celebrated in
fine style. The ones on the 17th had
a great time at Cinnamon Jim's when
the music set the tone for good food,
fun and friendship. Jim Lee, Don
Chesher and Cora Alcock were
wearing of the green as they
celebrated another year. Valerie
Watson and Julie Graber did their
celebrating in a little younger
fashion, in different venues. So
enjoy this life that is yours.
March Break is over with lots of
new things to take in and memories
to stash away. Broomball, hockey,
skiing, shopping, swimming,
sleepovers and visits were all
part of the fun that I heard
about. Sounds like a good
time and now it's back to business.
Brussels and area is so fortunate to
have so many people who truly care
about the whole community. No
lines are drawn, no affiliation
supreme and no cause dismissed
when support is needed for specifics.
The Optimist Club has been
around here for a long time and
community support is one of their
mandates.
One of their traditions is the spring
auction. A need is determined,
specific jobs are assigned and the
night begins to take shape.
This year, the club's work towards
community had the needs of our
local fire departments and hospitals
as the recipients of profits from the
evening. A sold -out crowd ready for
fun filled the auditorium. Jeff and
Cathy Cardiff and crew filled the
food needs, company at the elegant
tables looked after the fun, leaving
the auctioneers to prime the money
for the cause. Kevin McArter's
smooth form with a little help
from some friends made a good way
to acquire some things. Of course it
was a successful night with everyone
going home happy and pleased to be
part of a give -back evening.
Good work again, Optimist Club.
Oh yes, call Kathy Workman on
the 22nd, or the next day, as she, too,
is getting older.
Take care of yourself, you know
the ways.
Bye now,
Betty G.W.

Cinnamon Jim's upstairs lounge, called the Upper Deck, was the place to be on Friday
whether it was for lunch or dinner as the St. Patrick's Day celebrations were in full swing with
musical guests for both meals. The evening show featured "Half an Irish Cowboy" while the
lunch show featured "Just Fun" picking some tunes appropriate for the day. The latter is shown
above playing to some fans in their best green attire. (Dennyscottphoto)
At the Branch
Country Versatiles bring out 80
By Jo -Ann McDonald
There was lots going on at the
Branch over the weekend. The
exciting news was the Legion
provincial dart competition, which
was attended by four of our
Comrades. They went to the Port
Credit/Mississauga Branch for
singles and team play. Ron Schmidt
played in the singles play and won
his card to advance to the playoff
round. He played well but lost in the
semi-finals to the eventual singles
champion. He finished third in the
province! Congratulations to Ron!
The team play had the team of Ron
Schmidt, Tyler Verbeek, Ryan Shaw
and Mark Campbell finish second on
their card, but they did not advance
to the playoff round.
Congratulations to all four of the
Comrades from Branch 218 for a job
well done and representing the
Branch so well.
The Saturday afternoon euchre
had 13 tables of players hoping to
take home the top prize. The first
place team was Carol and Susan, 83
points, second place, Jean Bridge
and Pauline Bennett, 80 points and
third Lois and Millie, 76 points. The
lone hand prizes went to Rosemary
Swarbrick and Lou Lakey with
seven lone hands. The low score of
the day was earned by Alma and
Marilyn winning 41 points and the
prize.
The Sunday night dance had a
great crowd of over 80 enjoy the
music of the Country Versatiles.
Good weather brings out the folks
and it was a nice night.
We send our get well wishes to
Comrade Lloyd Glanville who is in
Seaforth Hospital at this time. We
hope he is home soon. We also send
get well wishes to Jean Bridge who
went into hospital on the weekend.
We hope she is soon feeling better.
