Coultes to share El Salvador trip with WI, guests
At the Women's Institute meeting
on Tuesday, March 21 at 10:30 a.m.
in the basement of Knox United
Church, Yvonne Coultes will speak
on her trip to El Salvador. Bring a
bag lunch. Everyone is welcome.
The community extends sincere
sympathy to Neil Olson in the loss of
a dear wife, Ruth Olson who passed
away on March 2. Sympathy is also
extended to Joanne Olson and Brian
Heard, Jeff Olson and Mickey
Howes, and Mark and Nicole Olson
in the loss of their mother.
The Listowel Curling Club played
host to the 2017 Mixed Doubles
Curling Provincial Championship on
Feb. 24-26. There were 16 of
Southern Ontario's finest tandems
taking part in the relatively new
format, which is set to make its debut
in the 2018 Winter Olympics. Shawn
and Katie Cottrill of Belgrave took
part with a 3-3 record in the
tournament but were eliminated from
the playoffs with a 7-4 loss.
Doug Walker greeted worshippers
and handed out the bulletins at Knox
United Church on Sunday, March
12.
Brian Hymers welcomed the
congregation on Lent 2. He lit the
Christ candle. Our journey through
this Lenten season causes us to learn
more about ourselves and God being
with us.
He also lit a candle for Howard
Walker to let the family know that
our thoughts and prayers are with
them in their loss of Howard.
The welcoming hymn "Where
Cross the Crowded Ways of Life"
was sung. The call to worship was
read responsively followed by the
choir anthem.
"Para, Para, Pitter Pat" was the
children's hymn followed by
children's time. Brian referred to St.
Patrick's Day on March 17 and
special celebrations taking place. At
different events, people would hold a
sign up with John 3:16. The Lenten
journey is all about signs.
Elly Dow read scripture from
Genesis 12:1-4, Psalm 121
responsively with the congregation
and John 3:1-17.
Brian reflected on the second
week of Lent. It is time to test our
faith. We enter into the spirit of God
through baptism and faith and
partake in the Lord's Supper. One
must be born again to have a
relationship with God. Let Christ
enter into your soul. Reach out and
grasp it. Enjoy the life that God
promises to you this Easter season.
After the Hymn of Response,
Doreen Marks gave the Minute for
Missions, "Help for Refugees".
Doug Walker and Don Shiell took
up the offering which was dedicated.
The closing hymn "Jesus Calls
